Have a few hand plane's, but came across this blade or iron while digging a foundation.
This blade over sized my #7 hand blade, right now have it soaking in lemon juice to remove the rust.
Will...
Fantastic work.
Looks better than it did when it left the factory, I bet.
Sweet buy.
Tend to agree with Mike.
Going rate for a BR lever cap is around 30.
So you have done very well.
A used BR sole can be found on line sometimes..better way than the machine shop.
A...
Do they work on your side now..?
Thanks in advance if they do Lonnie..
Heads up on the use of any solutions used for rust removal.
This mourning was cleaning up the shop, and decided to dump my Lemon juice solution in the grass.
Must of missed a brace bit which was...
Denny, welcome also.
One of the best ways to get into hand planing is to rehab or restore one.
Not all parts are inter-changeable though as over the years different Types are made.
Do some...
Great job on the restore..
To help preserve the luster, and help keep oxidation at bay, I use Renaissance Wax.
David,
About a month ago did a comparison test with two #5's.
A Type 17 against a Bedrock, had a PM-V11 and swapped it out in both, for a proper comparison.
And then the Type 17 with original...
Stanley, hope you beat it forever, thumbs up to you.
There might be a misconception going on using diamond plates
You can use them dry, but the preferred method is using water to keep the...
Sounds like you made out great...
Watch out now though...once you have rehabbed one...down the slope you go...:)
Ward Master share the same thread size on the 78, heard that Craftsman also.
Stanley made some of there 78's.
Do not think Stanley had a bin of screws just for Ward Master or the Craftsman.

Both of the planes you mentioned, would not be one of my choices on a working plane.
The Shelton if it looks like a Stanley knock off, can be fine tuned as well as the Stanley plane, and be made...
Have you tried soaking the shaft in "Blast" or WD40.
And then using compress air to blow out the area, then repeat again if needed.
Those bearing are loose and not in a casing so to speak...they...
Thanks Jim,
Great tip, first time I have seen this how to do.
I have to agree with Derek.
A 5 1/4 is also good for a scrub. Worn down wooden planes where probable the start of the scrub plane.
Stanley I believe just marketed the plane in there line up.
So true, but that can be said about any tools.
Quoting from another source, think of the card scrapper as a micro-plane.
Good tip, proper safety equipment and steps should apply using any cleaning solutions.
Here is a pic of the end results, of rust removing.

Sweet..!
Nice moulding plane also...good eye.
Nice, very nice.
A warm welcome here..
Hard to beat a StewMac scraper, love using mine.
I usually throw mine out after a month, just pour it out in the grass, safe and bio-degradable.
Lol..have greener grass in that area.
Have also d-rusted other tools...one time forgot a auger bit...
Mark, just dropping the parts in the lemon juice..fish them out with a telescoping pen magnet.
Hot water and dish soap is used to clean off the parts, have also used brake cleaner to clear the water...
