I received the cushions for the chair today! Tepe Upholstery is a long time locally owned shop in South Bend, and I couldn't be happier with their work. They came pick up the...
A zero clearance plate on the table saw, a sharp blade riving knife, and a good push block should provide you the ability to rip very thin strips. I have a sliding table saw and a rip fence I can...
Just about there! Everything is complete, but the four pegs I intend to make for the back rst hinge and the back stops. I will be turning this this week from Cherry with a Walnut stip in the middle...
To make the bent arms and seat back I used my band saw to resaw some 6/4 Cherry. Each piece ended up about 3/16 thick. I the. Laminated them with Weldwood Plastic Resin glue on a bent lamination form...
Sorry to everyone.
The first coat of Danish Oil finish is on! Will wait until tomorrow to reapply and plan on 4 coats with a steel wool applied wax finish. Hope to order cushions this week.
Here are some of the details that I finished yesterday. I had the tapered cut offs laying around from the legs and decided to make the corbels from them. I thought their taper made a nice touch that...
I'm back in the shop and glued up the majority of the chair today. I debated on title bond or epoxy. I wanted a longe open time due to the time it takes me to assemble the slats in the side of the...
I'm back from vacation and looking forward to diving back into the project. Today, I routed the dado in the underside of the arm, milled the back and the began bending the first slat for the back....
Unfortunately, I'm not going to be much help, however, I took delivery of a new A31 in February and my infeed and outfeed tables need a slight push down to contact the bolts prior to clamping them...
I agree with Mike. I used to use biscuits to align large edge glue ups, but I use cauls now. It is faster, no additional machining, and as Mike said, no worries about trimming and exposing biscuits....
I would go the stacked route. I would have very little confidence in a but joint. It will also give you and opportunity to be a little creative with the trim design.
Well, my time working on the chair was shortened this weekend by a pounding headache on Saturday, but I did make some progress. As you can see, I got the arms on the chair with a little modification....
I have the A31 with the Silent Power head. I purchased it primarily due to the noise reduction. My shop is in my garage and the houses in our subdivision are 15' apart. I can tell you the noise...
I'm not sure about leather or fabric at this point. I was considering fabric, because my wife saw a nice pattern she liked. I would like leather, so we'll have to see. I just finished the bow arm...
If I'm not mistaken, the Silent Power head cannot be added to the machines after production, only a Byrd can be retro fitted.
Hi Glenn,
about a month or two ago there was an in depth discussion on FOG (Felder Owners Group) regarding this issue. I would encourage you to go there for some info.
Well, spent some time today shaping the tenon shoulders on the slats to match the curve of the side stretchers. I tried several different ways to do this, but in the end I took my marking knife...
Hi Guy,
Fine Woodworking did a nice test of several glue types, including epoxy, on bridal joints in several different woods species. They then calibrated the amount of lbs. required to break the...
My wife won't give up her half of the garage, so I put projects anywhere they will fit! The bigger the projects the harder it is to find a place for them. This one is a little difficult to move by...
Sorry about the photos. Sometimes I don't know which way is up.
Well, I finally started work on my bow arm,Metro Morris chair, a contemporary Stickley design on the classic. I thought I would post some pics as the process unfolds. The pictures included are of...
I usually hang plans from a shelf using clamps. Anything that is from a magazine or 8 1/2 x11 sheet I store them in a 3" three ring binder as Cody mentioned. I don't have extra wall space in my shop,...
