    Just a small update:

Picked up the compressor yesterday. Haven't been able to do anything but take off the belt cover and turn the compressor by hand. But it was easy to do. So that's a good sign.

So, let's see if I am understanding this correctly. If I can turn the pump by hand, then there isn't enough (or perhaps any) oil in the cylinder to cause damage issues when running. But there still...

    Mike,

I'm a little confused by that statement. Are you saying "if you can turn the pump successfully, that means there isn't any oil in the cylinder"? Or am I misunderstanding?
  8. Any ideas or plans for patio/deck storage boxes?

Now that I have two mobile children in my life, there is a lot of "backyard clutter" that gets spread around the yard. So, to keep the wife happier, I was thinking about getting some sort of patio...

I'm guessing that this is probably what I'm going to have to do with it. Thanks Mickey.

Sadly, that's not an option, at least at the seller's house. There's no 220 and the compressor is being sold by his widow. She does understand that it's been sitting and wants to make sure that it...

I've got a chance to pick up a used 60 gallon CH/Husky compressor for a good price. But here's the catch...

It sounds like the compressor was shipped across the country a few years ago when the...

Good call on the new forum! I think metalworking is a natural outgrowth of woodworking for a lot of people. Nice to know I'm not alone.

You can't wait for someone to lose a hand? Classy.

I get that you don't like the SawStop guy. But try to drag the debate out of the gutter. Hoping for another person to lose a hand just so SawStop...

That's a very good point about the firewood. I had never thought about that.

I know for a fact that my step father has a stash of applewood firewood for his woodfired oven that I could swipe from....

Just to be clear, I'm aware that turning Fir scraps is less than ideal for the lathe. That is why I posted the question. I'm hoping to move away from "playing around" and more towards "working on...

    What's a good "practice" wood?

So I've finally dusted off the gift lathe that I got the other year and am messing around with it a bit.

Is there such a thing as a "cheap" practice wood? I've just been beating up pieces of fir...

Thanks for the advice so far.

However, I'm hoping that someone who has used these specific smaller models will chime in. Most of the people on SMC seem to have larger units. And understandably...
  22. So what's the deal with the small "benchtop" chinese lasers?

    Howdy everyone,

Just a visitor from the "wood" side of SMC.

Quick question that obviously labels me as a clueless newbie:

What's the deal with the chinese 'benchtop' laser engravers I see on...

I'm a little jealous of the people who got in on the Kobalt $50 deal over black friday last year. I guess they might do it again, so I could probably stand to wait. If I've lasted this long without a...

I agree with Erik. See if you can get Kobalt to flow you one for your work.

That having been said, I posted what would be a theoretical "recipe" for a CO2 version above. The "aux tank" solution...
