I tend to make smaller items, for example, jewelry and shaving brushes.
I really like using a "Mark St. Ledger" 5/8" spindle roughing gouge from Thompson Lathe Tools (it is listed under 'other'...
Lauren and I spent time with Bill a few years ago... Time very well spent.
I respectfully disagree with Steve about the Allen head screws. I find no problem at all with the thumb screws, finger tight is fine for my turning. Considering how often I reposition the index...
Dave,
Lauren and I appreciate your kind words about our presentation in Tampa.
If you have any questions, or just want to chat a bit, send me a private message, and we can talk on the phone.

For my use, I find turners tape much much better than any of the carpet tapes I have tried. The key is light cuts. Keep visualizing that your work is only being held on by tape, so go gently, and...
Lovely. Very nicely done.
Mike, don't forget to use the tilt adjust to "balance" the unit on your head so that it's neither pulling forwards nor backwards. It makes a big difference in comfort.
Rich,
You mentioned "The 3M Airstream takes care of both particulate and fumes"
The 3M AirStream with the blower in the helmet is particulate only, using an in-helmet HEPA filter.
The 3M...
John, some demonstrators are "invited", and then there is a general call for topics, where anyone can submit their demonstration proposals. So keep your eyes open for the call for topics deadlines....
It was great seeing familiar faces, as well as the graybeards newly met. Lauren and I had a fine time, and hope the folks who attended our demos enjoyed them as much as we did. The feedback we...
I'd just make sure that all the circuit boards and ribbon cables are connected securely... and then give Nova support a phone call.
First thing I'd check.... Are you pressing the remote button in for 2 seconds to start the lathe? You might not be pressing the button for long enough.
Jon,
Absolutely, it takes only about 3 more minutes to make two instead of one... make them by the dozen <vbg>
I recently became a member of the AAW Woodturning FUNdamentals committee.
This video accompanies a short article I wrote for the May/June newsletter.
It's a simple enough accessory to build. I...
First you get a cello to autoplay in your shop....
.... and don't inadvertantly throw away the little board... the packaging makes it easy to miss.
Eric, come on in, the water's fine <vbg>
Thanks one and all for the kind words. We really are having a good time making these pendants, and sharing the techniques and toys, cough, errrr.... tools used to produce them.
Thanks Brian, sorry we didn't get a chance to meet... come visit in NJ!
Bill, we're having great fun experimenting with many tools and techniques... brass inlay, polymer clay, precious metal clay, dyes, inlace, wood inlaying, semi precious stones, airbrushing, piercing,...
Harry, yes, we're using archival in pens and brushes from Pigma... mostly in .005 and .05 point sizes.
Charlie, I turned a very thin, tapered, flat bottomed "cup" that encloses the back... it's just wide enough to cover the wirework.
This is just something Lauren is playing with... we have some...
David,
This was a turning project, all done on the lathe, no carving. Here are a couple of photos that might give some insight into how it was made.
The wood is a laminate flooring product...
