Bob,
ROS (hook & loop)
Pro:
more aggressive
ease of changing disks
variable speed
Con:
cost of disks
I agree with Jim. Ipe mills well, but you need sharp blades/bits. Ipe also produces a cloud of nasty dust. I have built over a hundred Ipe decks, and the Ipe that is available for decking is...
I'm not too sure about prices, but Dykes lumber (main yard is in Weehawken)
201-867-0391. Another yard is Rosenzweig lumber...it's a candy store for woodworkers, in the south Bronx, near the Triboro...
Jerry,
Very nice work, but a very low price...at least it would be here in Brooklyn. I am currently working on a built-in bookcase/wall unit for a client.
Birch ply with MDF backs;
paint...
I use a few of the tools listed above, but I'd have to say story sticks are very important to me...and practically free.

I used the saw all day today and the brake worked every time. I will order the brushes and keep them safe till needed.
I love you guys...thanks.
steve
As a followup, I checked the brushes, and there was some dust packed in there...how does it get in thru that plastic screw? I blew out the dust, and then revved it up for a minute. The brake now...
I have a good set of shop tools in Sketchup (.skp) format. You can do your shop layout with sketchup, or they can be exported into .dwg or .dxf.
I can send them to you if you'd like.

Joe,
I'm a deck builder, and Ipe has been my decking material for the past 10 years.
You don't mention what type of wood you're gonna use, but since you said you're cheap, and mentioned the...
Thanks guys,
Come monday, I'll be inspecting the brushes, and blowing out any dust. I'll do a followup post and let you know how it went.
have a good weekend/mother's day

Thanks for the advice. I haven't changed the brushes, or even checked them. My mitersaw is currently at a jobsite (deck job), but when I finish the job next week, I'll bring it home and check the...
Hi,
I've had this Mitersaw (LS1011) for many years, and it's been a good friend. Lately the electric brake works sporadically, but usually doesn't. I frequently have to wait until the blade stops...
I have been building Ipe decks for 8 years...tons of Ipe. I pick out all of my boards, as there are a few different species (from the Tabebuia family). Some boards are almost blond, some reddish with...
My father had a shop in the basement, and he built most of the furniture in our house. It wasn't his profession...just his hobby. I totally rejected woodworking as a kid, much to my regret. I loved...
Steve,
I've already made a few cutting boards with Ipe. Are you concerned that the glue won't hold...or that it is toxic? One of those boards was for my wife, and she uses it almost everyday.

I saw that one too, and commented on it to my wife. In 30 years of using a table saw, I've never freehanded a cut. The installer did a good job, but sent the wrong message. Norm should have commented...
A couple of years ago, a friend of mine was dating a woman that works for Taunton Press. During december, employees are able to purchase any of their books at half price, (for Xmas presents) and...
Walt,
I've used the Bosch, and I really like it. It's a good size for all your jobsite needs, and it's very light.
David,
Very Nice cabinet, and I should add that it's the nicest glue/finish storage that I've ever seen. It always amazes me how much time and effort you folks put into building cabinets, etc. for...
Very nice Ken, but up here in New York we call them roach clips. :D
I am a faithful customer of Lee Valley, ordering a few times a year. The only time I wasn't satisfied
was 2 years ago, when I ordered the Inchmate + calculator by Sonin. It worked fine for a couple...
I've been using a Porter Cable for years, and it was great...till the batteries wouldn't take a charge anymore. I went to get a new one, and they were so expensive that I bought a 18 volt ryobi for a...
Thanks guys. I know that I can't go wrong for that price. I'll post a review in a couple of weeks, after I have time to try them out.
