It would help Johah to know where the wood and you are located.

I have had that Grizzly G0580 since 2009. I have cut a few bowl blanks with it but recently have been using it on smaller items. I have never had any problems with it. It did bog down a couple of...
I have the Woodcraft 8 inch slow speed grinder with a wolverine set-up and it works far better for sharpening chisels than my old No name 6 inch 3450 speed grinder. The 8" makes for a lesser hollow...
In my opinion it could be Maple. Some of the Maple I have has a bit of pink on the interior.

I thought I read that one time that Viva paper towels worked best for applying finishes. It seems to be soft and lint free. I know it was popular on some forum just can't remember where or when. Just...
I was wondering if it really was Maple or not too. But you should have better luck, if the wood is worth it, to speed up your lathe and make sure your tools are as sharp as they can be, that should...
That is a very nice piece. Great color and shine. Good job!

I have been reading all of these posts regarding this new Griz lathe. Nice to see one actually delivered and it looks great! You will have a lot of fun with them guys.

Great looking piece. Looks pretty complicated, I love it.

Very nice platter Thom. I wish I had a tenth of the patience to do something like that. I salute your determination.

I would guess Walnut or Elm.

I have the barracuda with the chuck wrench with the jaws, I also have the jumbo jaws, they all came in a kit from PSI. I haven't used it much but the chuck key is sometimes hard to get seated so it...
It can't hurt anything to ask for a label from them for your lathe. The worse that can happen is they can say "no". In my opinion. I would want one for my lathe.

Here is the only one that I could find on google.

Real nice bowl. The colored pencils really set it off.

I bought the full set of Raptors and they come in very handy when setting up to do my tool sharpening. I like it because my grinds stay consistent.

Here is a link to the IAP forum:
This forum is pretty much inclusive for pen turning, blank making, casting, etc. Very informative and also check out the library. Searching in the library...
I agree with Michelle, that piece of wood looks spectacular. Anything you make from it should be a beautiful piece of work.

Your pictures don't work.

That is a smokin' deal. I have a Shopsmith 10E made in 1952. Mine is a much earlier version than yours and is more suited to lathe work as it is very heavy. They are all USA made and will last more...
Very nice vase, I like it a lot. Lot of interesting figure in that hunk of wood, good shape and form too.

I use the vari-grind for my bowl gouges and I now use it for some of my spindle gouges. I have the adjustable leg set to instructions I read somewhere (not much help), 3rd notch down, and I don't...
I agree with them that say pine. The bark and grain look like pine to me.

I'd probably ask for a new lathe as it seems you have a defective one or that got damaged during transport. Call the manufacturer to get it replaced, if they will. You paid for a new one your should...
