Actually Grant, that is not what Rick is after. He wants to know how wide his 8 boards need to be to hit a given half of a circumference.
So since the circumference of a circle is 2 * Pi *...
While probably not the most ideal way to do a large number of beam ends, I think a reciprocating saw with a long blade could do the job.
Of course there is the neander method of using a buck saw...
Cold air sinks. If the entry from the garage to the basement is down some stairs then you partially have the answer to that question. Usually doors from garages to living spaces are sealed doors...
Looking good Scott.
Good thing you made those changes before your wife changed her mind. ;-)
I would be inclined to move the CMS to the long wall for greatest cut range possible. You know how...
Not even close to tapping all the energy in a drop of gas. The internal combustion engine is about 15% efficient according to http://www.fueleconomy.gov/FEG/atv.shtml. Diesel engines are more...

Is it possible to find some other space for the "holiday storage" room contents and then blow out the 2 interior walls and reclaim that space for the shop? If you can do that then you could...
Hey Matt
For your TV/video needs, you may want to consider a central PVR solution. MythTV, SageTV, GBPVR, BeyondTV etc. That will allow you to have centralized recording for any input type...
I would be inclined to put the office and bathroom on the opposite side of the drawing such that they are under the loft floor. I would also move the lumber rack so that it was closer to the double...
Bob does have point with all of this excellent suggestions. If his list of things check out and you still decide to proceed with your plan, I would investigate using the slow expansion spray foam...
Given the choice, I would go for hickory. It is a harder wood than oak. It is a pretty tough wood too. Hammer and axe handles tend to be made from hickory.
My $0.02 worth.

Is it possible to make your dry erase boards a little bigger to minimize the waste? I am sure you have already thought of that, but I thought I would check.
Other ideas for your offcuts...
Hi Jason
I have used these panels for a number of cabinets and bookshelves and they work quite well. The ones I used were from Home Depot and they were knotty pine.
Another friend of mine uses...

Find someone who has an 8-1/4" circular saw and borrow it. That should be able to handle that depth of cut you require. If not check out your local rental center and see if they have a larger...
A quick calculation for the 7 beams totals a hair under 750 board feet. Find out the going rate for such size and species of timber and you will have a good starting point. Factor in that you got...
Perhaps the 6 months in your shop gave it sufficient time to dry from getting rained on.

Are you looking for a chain saw mill that size in order to create slabs from a log or other big timber?
If not, perhaps a circular swing mill might be what you are looking for. They are designed...
I couldn't agree more with these 2 choices.

I would suggest rotating your table saw 180 degrees so the right side is against that load bearing wall. A buddy of mine has his table saw and excalibur sliding crosscut table set up in...
Left and right is relative to how you are viewing your workbench. Unless your bench is against a wall, move your face vice to the opposite side of your bench and it becomes a "lefty bench". Or...
