The Record and Woden screw top ones i have seen on Ebay have a barbed shaft. You could take a cold chisel and cut barbs; i have done this to slipping pipe clamps to good effect.

Yes, i will.
That looks a lot like what the person wants.
Thank you.
*That was in response to Steven C. Newman.
I really like that look but the person is very particular and i don't think it would go with the kind of bed they want.
A "Provence" bed.

Thank you, i was only familiar with the corner hanger brackets and had to google the bed bolts.
I like them as they pull it tight but the person already nixed having pegs show on the outside for a...
I am making a bed that will have 2x8 rails attached to 4x4 posts via mortise and tenon.
I know panels within a frame are kept loose as one shouldn't glue that wide a connection because of movement...
Thanks for the response David.
I know they are kind of boring questions.
I will get some 3 inch round heads and try and finish this thing.
The blocks are glued so as to be like tenon shoulders...
Ello,
I am trying to make bench in the English style. I am wondering how to attach the top to the joists and the joists to the apron.
I saw an introductory video trailer by Richard Maguire, The...
I was wondering about that term. I thought maybe it was evening polish.
In a French movie "Amelie" a woman attaches something to her feet to polish the floor. I can not recall if it was similar...
Nice saw.
It looks like the plate extends past the backing based on where that top bolt is. is the slit for the plate visible on the top of the handle?
To me, the hang angle looks standard yet...
according to this thread O1 has different names in Europe and England. http://straightrazorplace.com/forge/93058-o-1-steel-europe-print.html

Here are some pics Jim. Not sure if they'll informative.
this shows the set screw finger tight.

I am guessing the King blue is a 220 girt green carbide and the red is 800/1000 if it is terra cotta colored. David Weaver said the Sigma II line is designed for hss.
I just realized that shortening the blade would move the screw back up the bed too so maybe the plane is not been thinned. It is a coffin smoother about 2 and a quarter thick. I do not know standard...
Thanks for the great info and encouragement.
I wish i knew what observations to give you that are relevant.
With my high tech calibration i would say the gap is 3/64" at the widest. It seems...
thanks George.
Do you fit the mortise in the handle to that horseshoe shape?
Leaving aesthetics aside, do you have a preference for brass or steel for backs. The cost difference is quite...
I do not have a vise Kyle, but i'll try that with a c-clamp or vise grips pliers.
Steve, i think the threads are alligned properly because the underside of the screw is in proper contact before i...

Hard to tell what the back looks like though. I did the method above that the timber saw doctor used....
If the thin metal cools too quickly to soften, can i cut it with an abrasive wheel on an angle grinder with impunity? Is there a better way on the cheap to cut it? I need to make long rip cuts.
Do i need to anneal steel before bending it? Can angle steel be used since it is already halfway home? Can it be annealed with a MAPP plumber's torch.
George, you have said that 2 torches are...
I suppose in the real world you can not stop honing at the exact optimum time and may shorten the life more if you use the secondary bevel method without being able to keep a consistent angle.
You would normally use less strokes at the higher angle and stop when it is sharp. You could raise your bevel to 50 degrees and still not get anymore wear on the back of the chisel than 20 degrees....
I have problems with this. The blade is bent when tightening the screw. Because of this only the part of the screw is in contact with the blade. It is the part towrds the edge so it wants to push...
Thanks for posting these threads. I rubbed some linseed oil on a steel saw back and cooked it and i like the contrast between the back and plate that was previously absent.
A hollow grind is a secondary bevel. Unless you work right off the wheel or have a round hone to match the wheel. Chisel life is the same for both methods even if you are raising the secondary bevel...
Derek,
are you saying that Mike put the paper on just below the teeth tips by cutting through it? If the teeth do not extend above the paper I do not see how they are being squeezed less than the...
