The crated weight for the 166-E is 2400 lbs. I doubt weight would
be an issue for you, but space might be. Have you ever stood next
to one? The footprint is huge! The tables are 100"X26" plus you...

For those of you who like old machinery, I thought you might enjoy seeing
these pics. They don't build 'em like this anymore.

I just finished restoring a 40 year old Delta VS drill press. It runs as
smooth today as it did the day it left the factory. The runout measured
at 1.5" down from the chuck was well under 2 thou....
Here's my restored MBC. Perfect size for my small shop-and I use it
on just about every project.

Thanks for the compliment. It's made out of mdo ply and redwood. The
posts are pressure treated 4X4's.
Built this for a neighbor who wanted a bigger version of one I had built
for myself. The columns are hollow and slip over posts set in concrete.
I'd forgotten how much time it really takes to...
I own 4 restored vintage Oliver machines including a 260D tablesaw. All
of the machines are a joy to use and blow away anything you can buy new
today except for maybe Northfield equipment and some...
Your best bet for fairing curves is a flexible batten with the sandpaper
either glued to or wrapped around. With long gentle curves like in
your adirondack chair, you can avoid the scallops you...
Your description is rather vague. Is this to be a deck hatch with hinges
or a sliding companionway hatch? If it's a slider, it should be built with
some crown-usually at least equal to the deck...
Greg,
I own a 260D. If you are into older industrial machines, the 260 is
about as nice a saw as you could ever want. I've never heard
of anyone regretting buying an older Oliver machine. It does...
Thanks Kent. No, my boat and Chanty pictured here were designed
by my dad, Bruce King, a big fan of Herreshoff.
Here's a deck shot of Hetairos. She's logged over 120,000 miles since her...
My boat goes offshore and that hatch
has yet to leak. Moreover, that same design has appeared on many
custom yachts that cost millions and sail all over the world.
Yeah right. You gonna...
So True! Once my shop had an RPC, I never looked back. 3 phase
industrial equipment rules!!
Martin
$300 for a unisaw and an RPC? Are you kidding? I would snap that
up immediately! If 3 phase scares you, you could always swap out
the motor for single phase and sell the RPC.

The first thing I would do is build a bending form out of scrap wood
or mdf to build the sides. The next thing would be to figure out
how thin the lams have to be to take the curvature. I'm...
Why not? It's no different than making boat parts in wood. I'd definitely
vacuum bag the lams to a form. For a finish you could do 8-10 build coats
with a varnish that has a UV inhibitor followed...
Thanks Roy. The wood is teak. The finish is 10 coats of Epifanes varnish.
Thanks for the kind words.
The hinges are actually chrome over bronze. The parts were cut out
from plate on a waterjet and then silver soldered together. I had
looked at casting them but...
This skylight replaces a deteriorating flat hatch that was nothing more
than a piece of polycarbonate screwed to a teak box. It features
bronze gutter pipes, stainless hardware, and beveled safety...
Sorry 'bout that. Seems to be working now.
I'm not sure what hobbyist means anymore. I have friends who are
woodworking hobbyists with industrial shapers weighing 1500 lbs or
more and spindle sizes of 1 1/4 inches. The first question you...
Here's a skylight hatch I built for my boat that's based loosely on a design
by my father. I opted for twin bronze gutter pipes and went with
stainless piano hinges and retaining frames. The glass...
If you are looking for boatbuilders, I would hit Hinckley yachts in
Southwest Harbor, and Hodgdon Yachts in E. Boothbay. My dad
has designed boats for both of these companies. Also go by the...
You should really ask this on the owwm.org website. Either stripping
to metal or painting over is viable depending on the condition of
the finish, and what paint system you are using. I recently...
Here's a pic of a boat my father built in his garage.

She's built in cold molded wood/epoxy.
