Mike,
Thanks for that series on the platters. I am confused on one point though. It looks like you turn the blank and start working on the face (top) of the platter, and you state "I took the...

Mike,
Thanks for that series on the platters. I am confused on one point though. It looks like you turn the blank and start working on the face (top) of the platter, and you state "I took the...
I wish I had bought the separate wheels for the reasons listed above. I have the "3 on a rod" set-up on my Jet mini and am very limited in the size of bowls I can buff this way, especially on the...
I just turned 12 birdhouses for a project. Wish I had seen yours first.:( Like them much better. Very Nice!
I had the same problem with an "unidentifiable' noise. Like Byron, the setscrew in the collar on the shaft had come loose and the collar was sliding. Fixed that and haven't had a problem since. ...
Talk about learning from your mistakes. :p Beautiful!
Hi Chris,
Packard Woodworks carries HSS boring bar cutters.

What Robert said. I really love the (beautiful) box, but I think that finial and the base detract. That said, I would still display it prominently even if you didn't want to change anything.
Bernie,
Is that diameter, circumference, or heigth?
Thanks,
Larry
Thanks for both of the answers. The clarification of "wiping excess" as apposed to lightly "buffing" helps a lot. Ken, I like your process and will try that next. I'm having to bring the piece...
Not a good picture, but posted to show high gloss. I used Minwax antique oil but have not buffed yet. Instructions say to apply generous coat of oil and buff with clean cloth after 5 to 10 minutes....
And what would thatbe?
Marc,
We have a great woodturning club in Jacksonville. Meets second Monday of each month - just got home from this month's meeting. We have members at all stages of turning - from never turned...
I don't think it ever completely quits. I still look like a cotton millworker every time I buff. :(
You can see a short video on using the Beall Buffing system at

According to Lacer, it should be 70 degrees.
Beautiful! Use the second picture if only one is allowed.
Very nice handles, George. What did you do for the ferrules?
Thanks,
Larry
I just installed a new spindle lock on mine (lock and set screw was missing) and went thru just what Mike described. I'll only add that my "gear" had slid down the shaft to the housing wall. I had...
Go ahead and turn it to final dimensions (thin), let it warp, call it art. :D
Seriously - lots of folk like it that way. Display it so that the warp effect is less noticeable.
