Thanks for the hot glue advice! I was wondering if I just didn't use it properly based on my last experience using it. The piece didn't fly off, but I was able to release it from the glue block...
What are folk's opinion on hot glue in this application?
I hadn't thought of raising the back end of the articulating arm to angle the cutting tip down (I have articulated arm system and not the captured bar). I'll try that on the next project. I think...
<--- new to the Monster tools hollowing system. I was hollowing last night and noticed that I could not get the tool rest low enough on my Jet 1648EVS to get the cutting edge of the hollower at the...
Very nice... love walnut and bark!
Fingers also crossed.
thanks for the input. I'll look into this next time i grab my skew.
I sometimes get a wavy spiral surface finish when using my skew. I'll round the corners off the piece using my roughing gouge then grab my skew and remove all the gouge marks. Sometimes this works...
Sweet! You guys are fast. Now I'm off to talk to Santa...
Quick question about the Monster hollowing rig... Can the 5/8" tool bar be used in the 3/4" system for hollow forms with smaller openings?
Yes, do tell? I kind of like India Fusion in Jordan Landing.
If it's a commercal source of wood you're after (and don't mind driving a little south), I'd throw in Timberline Supply (Orem) and...
Nice vase Mike. Kicking back to the wood provider is the way it should be.
John, you might wanna visit a gastroenterologist... looks to me like you've got some tail pipe issues.
I'm not surprised by this turn of events. Congrats John.
I don't own (and have never used) a Oneway chuck so can't comment on that one. But I do own a SN2 (ver 1), SN2 (ver2) and a Vic 120. I always reach for the Vic... love the Vic. I really dislike...
Cottonwood/poplar and quaking aspen are probably the most abundant urban tree in this part of the country. They're popular because they provide shade so quickly. I was pretty skeptical about...
Thanks George!
Glad you're feeling better now. You should keep that pushblock (along with the doctor's bill and a bandaged hand photo) in a framed shadow box as a reminder. You can show your grandkids the scar on...
hahaha, I thought I might be the only one to have done this and actually "worked" at for a few minutes before figuring it out :o.
Very nice looking piece!
Quick question. I've only turned a single endgrain piece and it didn't contain the pith. Is it common to leave the pith in the base or do people drill it out and...
Thanks for the replies on the wheel. Regarding the application of the Ren wax... do you load the wheel with wax then buff your piece or do you wipe the wax on the piece then buff it off? I'm...
So how does one "unload" an already used wax wheel loaded with carnuba so it can be used for Renissance Wax? And I'm assuming that you wipe the Ren wax onto the piece with a soft cloth, let glaze...
Well I know better then to do anything other then burn this one:

So, is there any way to predict which crotches are going to be turnable and which are going to be full of bark?
Geeze Curt, that's very nice! Looks like I need to spend some time in the foothills this spring :)
Yeah I think the finish turning on that bowl will be a lesson in trepidation. That is assuming it doesn't just split into two pieces while drying.
So do you spray Deft? Do you thin it? I thought it wasn't supposed to be sprayed.
