I have the 1033X and couldn't be happier. It's quiet, precise, cuts oh-so clean, is extremely sturdy and has huge infeed/outfeed support.
The aside from the specs, the difference between the 1033...
That Amish fellow's name is John, an incredibly capable guy. His Grandfather, Pappy John, timber framed the main Hearne office building in figured cherry and white oak with ebony pegs. The other...
there's a member on here, Brian Greb, who does replacement handles/totes. I purchased three sets from him a little over a year ago now- two in birds eye maple and one in purple heart. they fit great...
randy that's reeeally nice looking!
i followed your posts during construction, glad to see it's up and running.
actually, husky and husqvarna are the same thing, husky is a nickname.
and, husqvarna makes jonsered saws, cosmetic differences only.
so it's stihl and husky for the win. both companies make...
i have the veritas mkll and have no issues with my smallest chisels (1/4").
don't have a grinder to dedicate to sharpening so haven't wandered down the hollow ground/freehand honing path yet.
try these guys:

in da' bronx, only about 5-10 min from the GWB.
domestics, exotics, sheet goods.
prices won't knock your socks off but not unreasonable.
very cool.
i like the wide selection of "cramps".
um, i like the 8 hp table saw with the 36" blade too.
Seth,
looks great, what is the difference in sound between this and a maple ply shell of similar size? I've been threatening to build a snare for a while now but haven't gotten to it, walnut stave...
for my 179" blades i order from bandsawbladesdirect dot com. You can basically build your own blade on the site; enter your desired length, width, gauge, ppi, tooth pattern and they give you a price....
I have used BLO on cold roller steel to darken and even out the color. wiped on, wiped off after 2 hours. I was incredibly skeptical when told it would work. That was six months ago and it still...
Mike,
For thew dovetail portion of the joinery class I teach I basically add two things to your list:
-On scrap stock I have students lay out a dozen or more lines at angles similar to tails...
Have to agree with Adam here,
I've always maintained that it is not a "waste of money" to start with a beater set of chisels until one is comfortable with them and acquires the necessary...
another vote for a jointer here.
the LV BU Jointer may make the most sense; as Jim said it can pull double duty with a shooting board.
Jeff, FWIW,
i glue up large panels like table tops in sections. start with the stock 1/8" thicker than finished size. my planer is 15", so for a 42" table top i would glue up three sections at <15"...
some of you guys may scoff at this, and some others will absolutely scoff at this, but my $35 stanley 60-1/2, bought new three years ago, is a great little plane.
took some work to make it work,...
Those mortise chisels are making me drool.
another vote for a lighter touch. I usually keep the first two fingers of my left hand on the tip of the rasp just to add slight pressure and help guide it. drawing blood means too much muscle.
Tom I'm 33 and 20/20 and i still need tricks to help see these sometimes.
After striking the lines with a knife i sand a sharp flat tip on a pencil and go over the marks.
In one of his...
That makes sense. I've heard of stoning one side of the teeth to reduce a tendency to wander.
It seems like success with this technique requires a very well developed feel for the tool.
Matthew, your logic sounds great to me. When you get the LN chisels, try to have them give you a copy of their sharpening pamphlet; they have broken the process down into a sub-5 minute ordeal for...
FWIW, my humble suggestion is to get the 1/4" and 1/2" sizes in a mid/low price range, use them for a while until you "figure them out", and then pony up for the good stuff.
My first set of...
concerning using wood with a high moisture content in the bench, schwarz also suggests using wet wood for legs and drier wood for stretchers, as the mortises in the wet wood will shrink around the...
seems i'm not the only one who "lost" some dough at the Lie Nielsen event.
I got a ruler too, and a dvd.
Big thanks to Deneb Puchalski from Lie Nielsen... he was totally game to...
