(split lid segmented box )
August is going to take...
i am curious as well as to the size of the piece and who made it
wow it is impressive
well here is the final piece
i have nicknamed it humpty
234985
i think it turned out pretty good
actually when this happened i was hollowing from the side totally out of the way
(the better thing with it was my shop is shared with my 1968 camaro and that was outside at the time it happened )
i started working on a new piece
i had a lot of time in trying to figure out how to do this new idea that i finally had the nerver to try
(it is a multi-dimensional lamination )

thanks guys
the out board turig rest is a great project
the big bowl was really kind of fun
obviously the laminated piece was "quick" the other piece (normal segmented work) was not all that bad
i did that as 2 halves and then glued them together
dares are great
they expand your ideas
and drive you insane
the bad part of the outboard rest is i can still go bigger than that one
i believe it will max out around 41"-42"
i thought about going
my dads business is closing and we have to start getting stuff out (long story
it is adjustable the bend that hooks to the pipe on the lathe is 1-1/4" which slides...
i started out SLOW and worked up
most of the roughing was done at 200 rpm ti finally get it round
some of the final turning was done at 300 sanding was up to 350 -375( i love my jet 1642 ...
i was dared to make something that big by the guys i work with
actually with that outboard rest i can go up to 41"
my son like everything i do
the outboard rest works pretty good
the more weight for the bottom plate the better (right now it is a 1" this x12" x12" steel plate)
prep work was not that bad...
it is made from 5 10' 2x4 cut and laminated together
making a 30" square that weighed 53 lbs
http://rolke.dyndns.org/ftp/woodbowls/large%20pine/DSC09708%20(Medium).JPG...
