This saw has been a workhorse for me for both larger and smaller blanks. I got it when it first came out and paid $895 for it which is now what the G0513 lists. don't know what your budget is but...

Gene,
Welcome to the forum!
What you will want in a lathe depends on what you think, at least initially, what you want to turn. 3 years ago I wanted to try turning. Didn't have a clue, as to...
Rob,
Nice bowls!
As a relative newbie turner (only a couple of years) aren't forums great for info. Sure is nice to be in a community where knowledge is shared.
Jim
IMO (and I'm still a beginner) I'd cut the pith out and store the blanks in a shady place with stickers between them in a stack until I'm ready to turn them. I wouldn't round them on the bandsaw 'til...
My new spindle adapter arrived yesterday. Mounted with a bottle stopper screw chuck the micrometer shows a runout of .006. I'm not a machinist and am only concerned that this will not affect...
You'll quickly discover that is a gross understatement :D
Congrats!

"LOVING his mustard"
Second this recommendation, it's where I got mine - Joe was good to deal with. You'll love the mustard!:D

$60 to $20 is a big difference. I'll have to call PSI, it lists 1 1/4 X 8TPI Converter but it doesn't say to what size it is converting. I'm glad to hear others are using them successfully.
Jim
My old lathe was a 1"x 8TPI spindle. My new lathe is a 1 1/4X 8TPI spindle. CSUSA sells a spindle adapter for $60. It would be nice to use my old facplates and and a couple of screw chucks(especially...
That's the joy of having an electrician neighbor who you trade favors with. The waiting must be tough.
Enjoy your mustard!

Personally, I love the sapwood to heartwood contrast in woods and look to preserve it in my blanks. One thing I've found is that sapwood has a tendency to darken when exposed to sunlight.
Bored with mesquite--I don't think I'll ever get bored with any wood. But walnut is my favorite.
Beautiful bowl -- love the contrast -- is it sapwood to heartwood contrast or is it just feature of...
Sure do love my mustard and I'm sure you will too!
Bill,
I have 2 Teknatool SN2's. I went that way 3 years ago for my first one because one of the points I liked about them was that all their jaws fit their various models of chucks so if I added...
Mike,
Thanks for the clarification. I was on the wrong page. Learned several new things though!:D :D
Jim
Wow! Beautiful work! Have to try that piercing on one of my walnut winged bowls to see what it looks like.
In IE you get the red X's but just a copy and paste of the properties brings the pics...
Mike, I get the sense from your post that you believe the jam chuck has to be as big as the full inside of your bowl. Is that correct? If so,your jam chuck does not need to be the same size as the...
From my shop for those L'sOML:
Wife wants nothing more than wax or no more than one coat of wipeon poly.
Daughter and daughter in law want high gloss.
In the store shiny sells more times than low...
Curt,
Neat idea!
Are your peanuts still in the shell for the Jays?
I get shelled and splits so I'm gonna try to figure out a way to adapt that for our spoiled jays and those d##$ed rodents that...
I've done several winged bowls with crotch wood. Same as with square bowls keep fingers, knuckles, etc., on the right side of the tool rest and you should have no problems. You save most of the...
Sure sounds like the marketing department (or somebody at Allstate with clout) got a whole lot more show vehicle than they were expecting. Congratulations Bill! Enjoy the race!

For the same problem I used 2 large washers on the spindle to get the aftermarket faceplate clear of the motor housing. Worked great for me.
Jim
Normally neither would I, but two years ago I needed a chainsaw and didn't have the cash for a good one. So I got a $99 Homecraft and it sawed a ton of blanks while I saved for a Husky 455. Ditto on...
When I added my 26'X28' workshop addition I thought there is no way I'll ever use all of this space. Wrong;)
Jim
The 3520 has the set screw setup for keeping it in place also. You can flip the switch on the PM also and it will reverse. But cautious me turns it off and then switches direction.
