Thanks Bernie,
That is just what I needed.
John
Thanks Guys,
I may need to clarify my question. Does the shoulder on the tennon need to be equal to the thickness of the jaw? By saying the diameter of the tennon should be slightly larger than...
When using a dovetail chuck how do you decide the diameter of the spigot and how much shoulder is needed to fit against the jaws? Are tools sold for cutting dovetails worth the money?
Thanks,
John
Steve,
Many thanks, I had not thought of Rockler and Hartville is a new source for me.
John
I had not thought about B.A. in years and right after reading your comment, there he was on TV.
Steve, where did you get the 120 and 150 grit Norton wheels? All I can find are the 80 and 100.
...
Thanks Guys,
You confirmed what I suspected (and didn't state well) originally. If I use the balancer I have to buy new wheels. Has anyone tried the Sorby belt sharpening system?
John
Has anyone tried the Oneway Balancer with the stock wheels that come on the Woodcraft slow speed grinder? The hole in the center on mine measure 7/8 with a reducer to 5/8 and the kit says they must...
Is it safe to use a Bedan tool for plunge cuts on small boxes and such?
Thanks,
John
Thanks for the help and information. I guess I needed a kick in the seat to make me realize a 10" saw is too small. I’ll keep saving and watching for deals like the one suggested at Grizzly.
Thanks...
I’m looking at the Rikon 10-300 and am wondering if it really has the power to cut 3" hardwood. Anyone have one that can offer advice. I don’t have the budget for a larger saw and the specs. on this...
OK, now I understand. Hopefully the balancer kit will arrive this week. Thanks for all the help and information.
John
Maybe I misunderstood, did you mean use the small washers WITH the balancer kit? I understand you don’t use the stock retainer washers with the kit. Those retainer washers from the HD Delta look...
Those look good but I assumed that the O.D. should be approximately the same as the stamped steel retainers. Any thoughts?
John
I’ve never seen the Oneway system in person, but I’ll order one today and see if it helps. Although I do wish I had the ability to turn some like Paul’s.
John
Paul,
Those look great and should cure any problems with wobbling grinder wheels. I wish someone would market them. Thanks again,
John
Paul,
I think you are on to something with your ½ inch thick aluminum pads. Most of the mid-priced grinders I have seen all use stamped steel washers to retain the wheels. It does not matter how...
Thanks Steve,
Your turning is always great but with these spurdles you have inspired a beginning turner with a fun new project. I was able to approximate your design my first try. The wife did not...
Leo that makes sense. I could not figure out how to use a draw bar on the tailstock and didn’t think I would need to. The idea of holding with vice grips when retreating makes things a lot safer too....
The only bits I have larger than ½" are forstner type. So I guess if I need one for a specific large hole, like Leo suggested, an MT type could be added later. I was not aware that a draw bar would...
Good question Kim,
I will just be using them as you suggested, drill press operations on the lathe.
For my use it appears the Jacobs chuck is the way to go. It sounds like there is not an...
Is there an advantage to using either MT drill bits or an MT chuck? Any tricks a new turner should know about either one?
Thanks,
John
Thanks guys,
This is a great group! I bought the Vicmarc and ordered two of the Grizzly design today because of Bernie’s previous posts. I have already found how slippery the slope is and the pull...
With the Vicmarc VM100 chuck, or any dovetail chuck, is it necessary to cut a dovetail on the tenon to clamp it safely in the chuck? This is my first go with a wood chuck and I would really like it...
I too have a new 1220 and it sounds like we have similar problems. I can twist the tailstock assembly slightly and line up the centers but this seems a bit sloppy to me, is this normal? After turning...
