I've recently gotten into the basket illusion turnings. Here's a few small hollow forms I've finished recently. I've done a few platters with a basket illusion on the rim but the hollow forms allow...
I'm working on 18-22" platters, heavy enough to worry about hanging them good.
I'm looking for info on how others are hanging large platters, my research to date has only come up with the invisible plate hanger. Not sure I want to glue anything on the bottom of the platter...

I adapted the oneway by welding on a tab that matches the inside diameter of the vicmarc chuck, that way it will keep the point centered.
I've recently started playing around with dyes and most of the finish processes use lacquer to seal the rim. However, since it's winter and I'm working in the basement lacquer isn't a viable option....
They put in a rod and some screws so it's weight bearing as tolerated. It happened the middle of august. Yeah, I don't have to worry about playing soccer for a while.

Thanks for all the info everyone. Judging by the responses it would appear my kerf was too wide since I readjusted the angle a couple times. I do wax the blades frequently and made sure I was not...
Dear Sawmill Creek,
I was working on my biggest bowl to date, a 17" maple NE, got the outside done ok and started coring. It's going smoothly until about 3/4 the way when I got a catch and a bent...

Using markers, I'm too cheap to buy them a spirograph.
yep 4224, just got it a month and half ago, it's been great.
thanks for the info
I got this with a bunch of other tools that came with my lathe. It's a Record tool, I've searched high and low and haven't found anything similar, what is it?...
pic 2 is a birch burl chunk, pic 6 has a tray that lifts out, sort of like a round jewelry box. pretty much everything I do I finish with antique oil, gives the right amount of shine without being...
It's been awhile since I've posted some finished stuff. I'm getting ready for a show this weekend and thought I should at least get some pics of what I've gotten done over the past month. The last...
The yellow it the mix of led and fluorescent lighting and a crappy iphone pic. I have a ground level window so I didn't have to carry anything down stairs. Just put in a plank and slide the bed on...
Thanks to Bob Bergstrom for the heads up on the craigslist posting I picked up a Powermatic 4224. It's a substantial upgrade from my delta 46-460. It's a 2003 lathe so it doesn't have all the bells...
You can't go wrong with cherry burl, nice job.
I'm thinking of making my own hollowing rig and tools, what is the radius of the medium bend and the larger bend? I'm thinking along the lines of the trent bosch and john jordan tools and starting...
