It appears to me you have yourself quite the cobbled together mess there, I hope it works better than it looks?
Very nice and vivid color David. I know the acrylic strings can be troublesome when turning it, but the end result is usually worth the hassle. As in this case, very pretty work. :)
That's nice work Chris. I like the fact that you used a lamination, and a different design that what is the "norm" for mills. Very innovative indeed.
Ronnis Milsap does a rendition of "O Holy Night" that will give you chills. IMO, the he does that song better than anyone. Other than that, I like most all Christmas Music. TSO does amazing...
In the short time I have been visiting this site, I have been watching a few things. If you are holding the "contributor" label, you, in the eyes of the powers to be, are held in higher regard than...
NICE little machine. It appears to be very similar to the Jet Mini, as Bart mentioned. I look forward to a full report on how you like it. I wish Santa would come early at my house. I guess you...
The Beall buffing wheels take a bit of breaking in to provide the ultimate finish Rich. If they are loaded too heavily, they will not perform as expected. A safe way to remove any excess compound...
Looks like a Hickory Tree to me Zahid. You're right, the squirrels love them. HARD wood, used for hammer handles and the like. Also, makes great firewood.
You're welcome Ernie, glad to help. I have worked a lot of Lacewood for decorative boxes and such, and it is wonderful. It gets an "antique" look after a while, and it looks wonderful when used...
Ernie, what you are probably experiencing is the BLO weeping out of the much softer "eye" areas of the Lacewood. I have finished Lacewood with Watco Danish Oil a few times, and it does take a longer...
Now THAT'S slick! ;)
Very nice John. I too am partial to the muffin shape, but the hour glass shape is beautiful too. I have started doing a few of these myself. Makes for great practice, without putting a large piece...
Nice piece of wood. I feel if the base was smaller it would look "lighter" and less "clunky". Forms like this need an uplifting look to them, not squatty. They are just more eye pleasing that way.
A very nice and innovative design Jim. Beautiful execution and finish too. What a great project! ;)
On the Internet Listings for The History Channel, they will be running Modern Marvels, Lumberyards, on Saturday December 10th, @ 6:00 p.m. Central. That is the only listing I see for the near...
I couldn't agree more Bob. It is most informative and very well done. I am fairly new to turning, and I found it invaluable. Great information delivered perfectly, and rookies as well as seasoned...
I have been wondering that too Kurt. How does the Antler turn? I have some saved back for some pens someday, any tips or hints would be welcome.
Beautiful pens. Love the colors. I may have to get those a spin one of these days! ;)
VERY nice work! :)
I like the wood. It has nice curl in it. The form just looks so unbalanced with the large rim on top. If you hold a piece of paper up to the picture and cover that rim, it looks much better. Just...
According to a good friend and turning mentor, the correct name for the wood is Kwila. He says it is native to Malaysia, and most notably used for competition croquet mallet heads. I think I remember...
Fascinating and nice work Mark. I hope to be able to do work like that someday!
Some of the best Poultry I have ever tasted was smoked using Pecan wood. I don't know what it is about it, but it was awesome.
Justin, here are a few things to help you out. I have only split one blank out of hundreds drilling with this method.
Use a slow speed, and make sure you back out the bit often to clear the...
