Pete, for the inside and esp to avoid need for sanding, I use a cupped carbide tool in a shear scraping mode. I’ve done several pieces with resin and this works well.

Hey David, hope all is well with you. Been quite a while since I've been on SMC, and it's good to see some familiar faces along with all the fresher folks.
It's especially good timing being able...
Hi Sam , I’ve been using a Gast 0522
I've only made one of these and originally for a Jet 1642, circa 2009.
I'll start with how I first made it for my Jet, then modified for my Powermatic.
Since these lathes have a thru bore on...
Fine work as always Les!
I like the form, kind of like a compressed amphora shape . So this is the second form of yours I’ve noticed with either a glass or acrylic finial. So which is it and did you make them?
I like this teapot, different shape than most I see but looks correct for some old pot you’d expect to see sitting on a wood stove. Well done!
I love how threads in a turners forum with the term “ burl” in it never fails to make one look!
Hey Jim, I echo Boyd’s suggestions using the Amazing Clear Cast. It is a slow cure, overnight. I’m in the middle of a bowl project that involves a large gap in the crotch area and if left as is,...
Been a while since I’ve visited SMC, nice to see ya John and making a nice deep form! I’ve not done any hollowing in a while, not that I’ve got it in me to stick a piece of iron down in the hole...
Brad, Hu makes a compelling argument for going out and buying a nice cue, or three unless of course you're just hellbent on making one. I did some digging and found the FWW article if interested,...
I also use dental pics. It's a good reason to make sure I go twice a year...my hygienist sterilizes and packs away a handful for me on every visit. The ones they use have to be sharpened to...
...just one more cut ...
Count me in.
The other threads have well described the technique using either the platform, or a jig to hold the cutter. My one caution, from experience, is to make sure if using the platform that it is close to...
Very nice Dennis. I commend you on keeping this piece together with the knots so close to the outer rim...that had to be a nail biter putting it in the bending rack!
I like the bee design...is...
The person at Jet who does the math like insurance companies do with actuarials, really did his job on that one. Generous appearing warranty when purchasing, but product fails outside warranty and...
Eric, that sucks big time and I can feel your pain. I've got less and less patience for that sort of thing, and will try to place as much control on where the pieces are set to prevent it...but...
is this the type with a #2 morse, or does it clamp in a chuck? If the latter, you could always drill a hole in the back and then tap it out.
If all else fails, soak in some lacquer thinner for a...
Won't do much for your really big pieces, but worth looking into FedEx OneRate for some pieces like 12" cubes and such. Pretty reasonable, similar to USPS Priority Flatrate, but some bigger sizes.
Bill, if you're gonna bite the bullet on one of those, this is the time to do it. Unfortunate about the shipping delays for the Griz, they'll likely lose others for similar reasons. I think they...
Very pleasing form and I like all the natural voids and such.
Eric, first off...you had me at "buckeye" on this as I'm a big fan of buckeye burl. I commend you on keeping it together and I really like the bit of offset turn work at the base of the stem, very...
Bill, when you loosen the screw at the top, you should be able to see the rotating burr at the base move downward, opening up the gap. If it doesn't, it could be that the spring is not oriented...
