It is called MinWax Antique Oil but it is a wipe on poly. Thanks.
I think they need more of a lip, or a rise at the opening, maybe I am to picky. Thank you for the comment.
All three are end grain, turned from the same tree. 6" x 4½", 7" x 5", 9" x 6½" and 1/8 to 3/16" thick. They were rough turned, soaked in DNA and dried, then re-turned. Not real happy with the top...
Very nice, like the simple look of the bottom.
Bill, I use the Monster system from Randy Privett. Thanks for all the comments. Ron
End grain bowls need to be worked from the middle out to the rim. That way you are not cutting into the end grain.
I like every thing about it.
Dolan, it soaked for two or three days, then turned it 4 months later. It was about 1" thick after rough turning. Thank you all for the nice complements. Ron
This walnut came from a neighbor's walnut tree. It was rough turned green, DNA and dried. I then returned it at 11 1/2" wide, 6 !/2" high and 1 1/2" opening, it was a challenge. Finish: 6 coats of...
Michael, it is called flat work. I plained the boards to 1/4" thick then cut strips 5/16" wide, and glued 12 of them together to make some boards 3" x 1/4" x 13" long, then plained them to 1/4"...

Have a lot of fun. Ron

Walnut and maple glued up into a block, then turned into a box with lid and finial. The finial was turned from a separate glue up of 16 pieces, and attached with a tenon. 2 3/4" diameter by 4 1/2"...
Brian, I will try to explain. I sand both points the drive end more but just enough so does not slip. Next turn the outside from the points to the drive center where I make a tenon about 1/2" long...
Brian, The box is turned from a 3" cube, mounted between centers, on two opposite points of the cube.
The cube needs to be a perfect square, and centered exactly on the points. Ron
Thank you for the kind comments. Alan the pedestal is 1/8" at the smallest point.
Very nice John, keep them coming.
This three cornered box is all made from cherry. It stands 12 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" wide at the box. I asked for advice on whether to leave it all cherry or ebonize part of it. The general opinion was...
Well, I glued the box together, NO ebonizing. Thanks for all the input, it is really appreciated. Ron
