I have now watched the Stuart Batty videos, and had a quick check of the tenons I cut the other day. I can see at least one error. The corner of the tenons were not cut as cleanly as they should have...
Thanks! I had never thought about the end grain vs side grain issue. I'll think about this next time.
I'll make sure to check the shoulders and that the V is cut as you describe. I'll check the...
I have a problem.. Or, I'm not sure if it's a problem or not.
I have some limited experience with bowl turning (using my previous lathe, a few years ago), which makes me wonder if I do have a...
Thanks for all suggestions! Today, I made an extension downwards. I lined it with "egg crate" foam. I also made a couple of extra walls, as a sort of labyrinth for the sound. These walls were also...
I've now finished building my Thien baffle dust collector with outdoor exhaust. I also replaced my blower with a new 3 hp blower. Separation seems to work as expected, but I was a bit startled by the...
I'll buy a 44 gallon Brute trashcan for the Thien Baffle build. That one has a 24" diameter, which should be enough for my 6" pipes. I read, somewhere, that it's recommended to have a minimum...
Thanks everyone! I'll go with the Thien baffle! :-)
I'm planning on replacing my current dust collection system with a new, 6" ducting and a more powerful dust collector (at least 3 hp).
My current plan is to use just a blower (without filters) and...
Thanks. I found the patent now. I just searched for the patent number earlier, and found something completely different :)
I have this old turning tool:
332162
I got it with a bunch of other tools I bought a few years ago. However, I have never found what to use this for. I thought it was a parting tool (diamond...
Thanks. I hadn't of spoon bits, but that might be it!
The lathe tools feel a bit short to me. But maybe I can repurpose them as carving tools instead.
I'm turning handles for some chisels without handles, or with broken handles. There was this one tool, that I thought was a carving gouge (had a short handle). However, the robust tang makes me...
I've now tried holding the old drill chuck in my scroll chuck. I cut the old shaft (from the cordless drill) with a hacksaw, and screwed it back onto the chuck. There's a thicker part a bit down the...
Thanks for all replies!
I have an old chuck from a cordless drill that might be usable. There's a screw in the bottom (inside of the chuck) that might be usable for connecting it to something my...
I have been watching Richard Raffan's DVD about wood turning, and saw an interesting chuck he uses. It seems to be usable both for holding drill bits and smaller objects (like the ferrule of a tool...
I have a few 53/54 type spokeshaves. One of them has a broken blade, so I would need a replacement for this.
I seem to remember reading that they need to be modified somehow (filing the mouth?) to...
Thanks for all suggestions!
I first tried gluing the tenon back on, but it worked loose again almost at once. I guess it's something with the varying grain direction (and it was also not...
I was just now turning the inside of a small bowl out of a nice rowan burl. However, I had a bad catch when half way down, and the tenon for the chuck broke off. The hole for the screw chuck is no...
The seller wanted $500 for it.
I've talked to the seller again, and tried to haggle, but he wouldn't go lower than $400.
I'm told it is in running order, but I don't want to try running it as the...
Or wait.. Can it be so that the back of the lower part (behind the lower wheel) is made of cast iron? That might be the reason why people add the dust port on the front on similar machines. I feel I...
I'm considering buying a used 14" bandsaw. I visited the seller today, and had a look. The saw is about 20-30 years old. Needs new tires, but otherwise in good condition. I think the price was a bit...
The machine looks like this:
284937
I found some pictures on the Internet of how the dust extraction attachment should look:
284936284935
After I found those, I had an idea of how it...
Thanks. I'll take some photos later today.
I have an old jointer/planer without a dust collection attachment. I'd like to connect the jointer/planer to the dust collector, so I'm looking for ideas for making my own dust collection port.
