Thanks guys. Wood it is.
I'm building some built in bunk beds. Framed with 2x4, extended out from the walls to give the "built in" look. There is a set of beds going north-south and a similar set going east-west with...
Anyone know when the next big convention is going to be? (other than IWF Atlanta 2008)..
Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like I'll be in good shape with a 8.5 or 10 ft slider from your examples. Next step will be to actually build the house. I just wanted to make sure I had enough...
My new workshop will be 35'X17'. Can I fit a 8.5 or 10.5 ft slider in there yet not be cramped? My workshop will also have:
1. J/P combo
2. 16" bandsaw
3. 2.5X3.5 ft router table
4. ...
Well, I spoke with the builder who is going to look into 300A into the house with a dedicated 100A of that to the shop with a panel for machinery electrical cut-off as Jim recommended. That's one...
The article makes me think very seriously about adding a digidrive to raise and lower the planer bed like on the Felder machines. Does MM offer a powered planer bed?
The house is set up for 200A service.
As a self-confessed moron on the subject of electrical power, what exactly do I need running from the street to the shop? The builder said it's no problem...
Well, the family and I took a huge step and decided to built a house. It's a great design. Of course, my favorite portion is the space in the basement that I've dedicated to my workshop. It'll...
What brand and model are the tools? What shape are they in? How many hours on each?
Thank you Jim.
For awhile there I was all set on buying the Sawstop. Now, once again, I am rethinking that.:D
Between Paul, and now yourself, I still haven't made a decision.
How's the...
Rich,
Go take a couple WW classes at one of the Woodcraft stores or at a local tech school. I will guarantee this will reinvigorate your interest. To see real professionals and their passion is...
I'm not worried about ventilation. There's enough space in the lid to box junction where I have padding so the wood doesn't contact on closing.
I suppose you could drill holes in the bottom that...
I use the lid supports from LV. They are static, nonclosing. Meaning, they don't close automatically. The lid can be lifted to any angle and stays there. No slamming.
It comes with a very course grit cone. I chose for the Rockler, which comes with a course and fine grit + a handle. Haven't needed to use it so far. I noted the guys at FWW chose it to demonstrate...
I gotta tell you, the hold down is fantastic. The "U" vertical hold down is fine, but the wheels for holding the piece up against the fence are perfect. The piece only moves when I want it too. ...
Doing a little "following-up" on some of the projects lately.
Here's the finished product.
Stained with oil merlot wipe on
Toned with shellac:medium brown dye mix via HVLP
Finished with...
Here's the follow-up I promised on the Mortiser.
I received the set of chisels from Lee Valley. Made in Japan, sharp as heck. I figured I've give them a run without any sharpening.
A couple...
They are new. If you click on the used and new link, it will show a couple other merchants who sell them. Doing so, you see Amazon has them currently for $27 (new) and, say, "BIC Superstore" has...
Check out Lee Valley.
You would be hard pressed to find many unsatisfied customers.
I'm anti-Craftsman power tools. I'll admit to that after a couple tools died on me (table saw and router). The router died after about a year of moderate use. It was a 1 3/4 HP router, fixed base. I...
just run a search on this unit here and you'll find a load of positive responses for the most part.
Watch out for lead, my friends.
The Lee Valley set is about $105 for 4 chisels and they are distinctly better than Delta's according to everything I've read.
What's the CB, Iowa? Council Bluffs? Cedar Bluffs?
