I think Rob hit it. Not only does your z axis need to be high enough, since your part is long, the gantry will have to pass over the part also and on many machines the gantry height is less...

Insert cutters are pretty common in metalworking. Amana seems to be bringing the concept to the engraving and wood groups.. I've used their index surfacer for 4 months and have nothing but good to...
Although they state you get everything including Mach, you will still need program to get your gcode and a good CAD program. Some can be open source(free) but I bet you end up with something like...
I realize you are trying to sneak under 3500 for the start, but with tooling software and accessories you will easily double the 3500 in a very short time.

Glad you got it figured out. It is always a journey.

If it is only happening on z then
1 keling driver bad/intermittant
2 stepper bad/intermittant
3 leadscrew spider coupling loose/slipping (I've had this happen several times)
4 leadscrew...
Does the z dro continue changing when the z hangs up. If it does it is definely missing steps.

Sounds like you have a handle on it. How about switching out a motor or changing the keling driver, somehow it must be missing steps.

Mike, sorry you are having so many problems. Your description sounds like you are losing steps. This can happen at many places in the build. Especially the types of wires used for the motors, poor...

Patrick addresses this in a post on his forum. Basically on one side of the gantry the chain goes over the sprocket and the other side it goes under the sprocket. I guess this is because...

The shafts do not spin in different directions except when called for by your gcode.. Unless you have a right and left hand thread screw,( the screws shipped by Patrick are from McMaster...

On another note, I wore out the aluminum rails in 6 months, so I changed to 3/4 angle iron on all axis. Just so you might want to do this during a build rather than disasembling the unit...

I also have the Blacktoe. You can use the 8,9 pins for the new keling driver. Then you would need to slave the drive in Mach3. I am planning to add an A axis so I want the 8,9 pins for...

I should have said, wire both motors identical to their respective drivers (in my case keling) just run the step and direction from 2 and 3 on the BOB to both drivers. I am not sure why you...
My mill uses 2 steppers for the X axis. It is wired exactly as if it was only one motor. Both sets of stepper wires sent to 2,3 BOB same colors etc. This has not been a problem. I thought about...

I'm on Fox Island and have an Epilog 32 laser. I can help you if you need it.

I had a MillRoute for 15 years. I thought about trying to convert it. It is way too flimsy to be of any use. The forces induced by the motors/router will flex the whole system and you...
Add me too!
Thanks
Why not just use a piece of coathanger? Not pretty but pretty functional and easy.

Well, we have gone really afar form the original topic. I have a small graphics based business and have bought over 50K of software to use over the past 10 years. I would never jeporadize/risk my...
Well Devon, you have to use your best judgment but in all likelyhood the torrents are images of the entire Corel clip art disks and they are copywrited. You have to read the fine print that Corel...
If you are getting the software from a torrent, then it is just like taking your neighbors software and installing it on your computer.

I'm glad it's not my eyes or a computer glitch. I can't find them either.

Wow, sometimes you just get a lemon. We have had our Legend 32 for 7 years with zero down time and it still puts out 70 watts.

Count me in also. Thanks
