I'm a beginning carver with a couple of basic questions. I own a Mastercarver Flex-Shaft Machine with a Recipro-Carver Pen.
1) Where can I find quality blades?
2) How do I sharpen the...
" Keep us posted on his condition."
Duff is doing much better. He will remain in ICU for 1-3 weeks as they fight the abdominal infection and absess. But knowing Duff, he will get home sooner...
Greg, I'm glad you are getting a new one. I have the same lathe bought new in 2008 for $1200 before the price jump. I added a shelf and 4-75# sand tubes for ballast. Absolutely, no regrets. ...
My brother-in-law, Duff Bement, has been in ICU since last Thursday. At this writing he is in surgery for the 3rd time to repair leakage from the small intestine. Your thoughts and prayers will be...
Now that is impressive. How long have you been doing this type of art?
Thanks for sharing, Linda
Matt, Thanks for the info!!
Joel, Thanks for the question!!
Really like the form you were able to get out of that piece. The natural colorings are really special.
I'm liking the form, the finish, and it is sweet piece of sycamore - plenty of color. Also like the shape of the lid.
Would you have to start over with the lid or could you remove part or all of...
Baxter, I agree with all the positive comments above. It is a beauty! Well done.
Looks like I still don't have the formatting right for inserting pictures. Hope you can decipher.
Christopher, the process I used for the “intasia” rose began with a drawing. I decided how I wanted the grain of the bloodwood oriented for each piece of the rose and drew arrows on each piece of the...
Here is something I just finished for my granddaughter's (Kyra Rose) 17th birthday. It is quite different, but I want to start experimenting with different embellishments.
The rose is bloodwood....
Super piece, Kathy. Nice design for this beautiful wood. Thanks for the process photos.
Way to go, John. Looks good from my view:-)
:rolleyes:Yep, I'm thinking Juniper is a Cedar. At least I get the same allergic reaction:eek::eek::eek:
Dan, those are real nice - both form and wood.
Thanks again for everyones input. Just to clear up a little misunderstanding: No pyrography on this piece. However, I intend to learn a bit of woodburning later.
The "trees" were carved with a...
Wow! This thread gets better every day. A warm welcome from the other side of the pond. Looking forward to seeing what you make with the new lathe!!
Hoping your foot heals quickly and you are...
With the top, it is 12 1/2" tall. 5 1/2 at widest point.
I’ve been pretty excited to find this group of turners – pretty isolated up here in NE Washington. But I’m hoping weather will allow evening travel to Spokane to join the closest AAW club next month....
Love the form and finish on all of the bowls!!
Pure walnut oil is slow drying and does take ultraviolet light and warm temperatures to cure. I've used it on several types of wooden utility...
Rob,
I really like the dish, both the beautiful wood and the form & finish!.
The only critique (if you want to call it that) is I can't tell what the bottom of the bowl looks like. With the...
Kyle,
What you are thinking is almost exactly how I finished out my attached shop. I have the 5/8" code sheetrock on the adjoining wall. Sheetrock on the ceiliing. Wainscoat 4' up from the floor....
The form (both with and without the finial) feels "spot on" to me. Just right. The coloring is special - good discovery. All-in-all: Super. Thanks for sharing!
Very Impressive! Without reading the text I would have assumed your were experienced in HFs. Gives a newby inspiration! Thanks for posting.
