It sounds to me like it is the cover for the dust collection port.

Thanks for the write-up. I am working on the same decision and upgrading from virtually the same contractor saw. I'm also looking at the Sawstop. It is a big jump in price, but I can afford it and...
Brian,
I don't think that you want to put your dust collector up on a platform. Then you will be using a lot of power just to lift the dust up that extra height.
Thanks for letting me know that you too make dumb mistakes. I have made so many mistakes on a simple jewelry box that I am working on that I wanted to toss it out, but it was already promised to...
I for one don't mind seeing reminder messages when you need to increase the funding. We all need to be reminded every once in a while that the good things in life are not free.
Perhaps a short...
Thanks all for your advice. Probably is because of feed speed. I did get a bit excited and the machine is not that old. The ripples are perpendicular to the long edge.
John
Hi all,
I have recently been getting some ripple from my jointer after getting glass smooth cuts before. I wonder if the blades need sharpening? Is there any local sharpening service in the...
Ted,
That idea looks pretty good. I think that I may be closing in on a plan.
Thanks, John
Thanks for your ideas guys. Yes, it is stone veneer, actual chiminy is, I believe, brick or concrete block. It is safe to drill through mortar and set in an expansion bolt or something into the...
Hi all,
I would like to pur in a box beam mantle (old bard beam, roughsawn, or hand planed) similar to this http://homepage.mac.com/johnhanes/.Public/05b77240.jpg
to this stone front...
Hi all,
I have just completed a face frame for a vanity cabinet and would like to find out if anyone knows of someone in the Chesapeake, VA or Virginia Beach, Va area that has a widebelt sander...
Thanks for looking guys.
I put that in, not recommended by AirHandling. It was just going to be too hard to get solid pieces that would get the bends that I needed. Also much more expensive...
I have been lurking here and elsewhere and have just completed my Cyclone Dust Collection. Yeah!:D I am a relatively new woodworker, but I finally have my shop the way I want it.
I am going to...
Keith,
That sounds like fun. I like to get my hands dirty, so of course I would like to work! If your friend doesn't mind, I'd like to see his operation sometime when I have a weekend free. my...
Jim,
That might be a bit far for me to go unless I can't find something closer.
Thanks for your reply
Hi all,
I'd like to see how a portable sawmill operation works, so I'm offering free labor on some weekend in my area of southeast virginia (hampton roads).
I want to help you go from trees to...
This is what I was hoping for; I am sick of the loud whine of the Shop Vac. I think that I'll look into getting a dual bag dust collector as well as an air cleaner.
This is a great board!
Hi all,
I am a pretty new woodworker. I have been using my shop vac hooked up to various tools as a dust collector. Of course the shop vac is NOISY! What can you tell me about the noise level of...
Thanks all for the info. I am learning. I will learn to sharpen my chisels; I also think that I should learn to use my plunge router to make rounded off mortises. That seems that it would be the...
Hi all,
I have been lurking a while. I am a new woodworker and have come upon this problem.
I am trying to make mortises in soft wood (cedar). I have drilled out with a forstner bit to rough...
