What about white instead of black? Try fingernail polish and brush it on and then remove the excess with acetone.
This, there is cottonwood all over the roadsides up here.
I use a product called PlastiX which is an automotive product used for headlights. I have never had an issue with it on my pens.

I have made a couple. I came down about 1.5 inches. For the slot you just need to make sure that it is very smooth so it does not catch the yarn.

Brian, I have had the same light that Rick mentioned for three years and I have never had a problem with it holding position.
If you're close to me I would be glad :rolleyes: to store one for you.
I carve spoons out of mostly cherry or fruit woods. What commercial ones are made of I don't know.
