vcp won't generate 2.5d toolpaths you'll need something different like aspire or artcam. artcam express for $150 will toolpath 2.5d designs

what machine, toolpathing software and control software are you using? it looks to me that it may be a parameter setting in the control software...

you don't need a cutting edge length longer that .625 to cut the 1.5" depth. I use a 6mm x 75mm bit with a 18mm doc and have no problems cutting up to 2.25" solid woods.

you can use tabs or a downshear bit to stop part movement. I would think long and hard about a 4x8 platform...I bet within 3 months you will wish you went bigger...
No matter how much you have read about cnc and your cad experience there will be a learning curve especially with what you want to cut. Don't expect to be in production as soon as you get a machine....

if you "crashed" the trial it may be your computer. artcam has better resolution than aspire. if you search the vectric forum you will find threads about resolution problems....

if your planning on doing a lot scanning you should look at a digital scanner not a touch probe, faster and more accurate.
