Those are really nice boxes for first projects and you picked a difficult wood to turn as well....Good job!
Those are great bowls!...The first one is my favorite. No matter what it took to get them finished, it was well worth it!...Great job!
Man, that's a great piece!!...VERY unique!!....Well done!
That's a really great piece!....Perfection in my eyes!
Great looking bowl!...I've been lucky enough to get some of that wood a well. I agree it's lovely to turn and has great color!
I'm usually my own worst critic, but I'm actually quite pleased with this one. https://forum.canadianwoodworking.com/images/smilies/smile1.gif
Birch burl with a burned and textured rim, and carved...
I've never tried DNA, as it's hard to come by here in Canada, but I have done some boiling. The drying time is a little longer I find, but it definitely stabilizes crack prone wood...Ony beef I have...
Great looking piece and I'm sure looks far nicer than any ceramic bowl it could have had before!
Great looking piece and definitely an improvement on the base!
Thanks for the kind comments! :)
Thanks, David!
Birch burls are seldom the "birds eye" type of grain, but generally have the iridescence you see in these pieces...Some more than others.
Everyone likes pictures and I have been lazy in posting any of my turning, so here are a couple recent pieces I've finished...You will notice a re-occuring theme with a lot of my turning, as it tends...
Hard to believe that's your fist HF!!...Nice form and a beautiful piece of wood!
Everyone likes something different, but I like the level of gloss you've got right now.
The burl was about 90 pounds when I packed it out last Sunday.....I have a store here that keeps large paper "leaf bags"...They work great! :)
Around here the primary hardwood available (Other than the odd yard tree that someone takes down) is "paper birch" which can be pretty plain in it's usual form, but when you are lucky enough to find...
I have to echo the WOW sentiment!!!.....Stunning pieces!
I really like that piece!.....I agree with Paul. I like the black lid as well.
Welcome to the forum, Geoff!
Nice to see another member from BC. :)
I love it...Period!!!
That's a beautiful piece!
I instantly think "guitar body" when I see it. :)
That's a crazy piece of wood! Absolutely beautiful!!!
Nice shape and beautiful grain in this piece, Leo!
I find 2 5/8" is quite a common size, and I make many at 2.75" as well.....
Nice work, Robert!
I liked it at first glance, but the more I look at it, the more I like it.....I agree with Bob. I could see a series of this design.
