Thanks for the good words!
The top of the legs are 1.5", and starting at the bottom of the drawer bank, they taper down to about 1 1/8". The total distance for the taper is 20" vertically.

Cross-post disclaimer!
Finally finished this- it will be a night table for myself, and is the first thing I have made that is primarily for me!
This table was made from a single wide board of...
That looks spectacular! I really want to make one now!
I rather enjoyed flattening, as I was pretty careful during glue up. I did spend probably 4 hours on smoothing the top, but I avoided any use of sandpaper on this project (planes/scrapers only).
...
Yes, it did. I have been very pleased with the cherry I have gotten from them!
Thanks everyone!!
Just over 7/8" (from 4/4 stock).
(Cross post disclaimer):
Dimensions are 36" wide by 77" long for the top and 29.5" high.
I was able to fine a few boards from the same tree for the top, and the others matched pretty well....
This does make sense to me. As stated, you likely had a back bevel, which will cause the exact symptom you described. The difference is that the more expensive plane is bevel up. It can't tolerate...
Thanks! It is a Queen.
Cherry bed recently completed. Hand cut M & T (draw-bored) joinery, with all hand profiling and surfacing. Aside from the bed-bolts, there are no metal fasteners. Now I just need to finish the bed...
Looking great Gary! If this is a smaller project, you must have something pretty involved planned for that lumber!
I don't mind the snow so much....but it sure would be nice to see some sun!
I've used a 40 degree blade (comes as 38 degrees, but I sharpened it a 40) to plane curly maple, and even worse woods with very good results. Thus, to answer your question, yes, the 50 degree blade...
Thanks everyone!
The spindles are joined by mortise and tenons (hand cut).
I would agree about the feet with regard to a fundamental design. However, I needed something that had a low...
My daughter needed a bed-side table, so I made one using a single cherry board, 9.5" wide. I wanted a couple of shelves for her books, toys, etc., and a space for her bed-side light.
I decided...
Try a pocket knife. Seriously! At least it works great for me!
Yes, I got it from Chanin here in Edmonton. I also got a 12/4 piece of eastern soft tiger maple at the same time. There is over 20 bf in that one board, and the figure/curl is everywhere! I can't...
I made this small step stool after using a "full-size" one I made last year, and finding a ton of use for it. I found a board that had some really great figure (curly yellow birch) and was just...
This is exactly what I did- I went to the show and tried several of the LN tenon saws. I ended up ordering the 16" thin plate saw, 11 ppi. Despite its size, it was just easier to use than the others....
I've not used many, but the best I have used is a Veritas #4 1/2 (as a dedicated smoother).
Veritas Low Angle Jack.
Add another one!
I have this set:
http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=49989&cat=1,41504,43500&ap=1
and they are a great starter set. $80 for a full set, and they seem to hold an edge fairly well....
You know, I thought about that for a while, but decided against it because I had an odd number of pieces (7), and no matter what I would end up with an off-centre pattern. However, after seeing it...
I used to get it from PJ White, but this was the first time I purchased from Gary at W G Chanin Hardwoods Ltd. If you haven't been there, it is certainly worth a trip!
Here is a picture of the two cases side by side:
