I just finished the prototype stand. It turned out so well that I decided to cut all the solid wood gears in MDF. I did this so that I would have two complete clocks. One 100% out of MDF and the...
@Bruce
You are supposed to use engineered products to make gears because of solid woods tendancy to chip on the edge grain of gears. On this project I increased the thickness of the gears to 3/4"...
Just completed the stand today (prototype stand).

This is a clock I started working on recently to put my CNC through its paces.
The goal is to have a clock made 100% out of sold wood. This means some design considerations to make sure the gears...
Keep in mind also that just because a machine will fit in a given space does not mean it can be used. You access from almost all sides of the machine. And at least a space in front of the machine...
Its all my design. I was making and handing these out at the US Science and Engineering Festaval. It was a two day event. We had over 150,000 people on the first day alone.
I was making these out...
I saw one of these at my local Woodcraft and decided to make one with the CNC.

This one is cut from a 2" cube of Foam. I have made them from wood...
I have used both the markers and the cutter. First the markers. I have to say these are way over priced for what you get. It is basicly some sharpie markers that slip into a couple of brass tubes...
Been looking through the manuals for Mach3. Where can I find more information on the RefCombination command?
The folks at CNCrouterParts have just released a new 5-start ACME nut.
I just upgraded my KRMx02 builds with the new 5-start ACME nut from CNCRouterParts. Its a much better nut.
The nut is...
been doing DIY CNC for a while and I can tell you this. You get what you payfor in most cases. I broke away from Linux based controller way back with my first build and went with MACH 3 on a PC. I...
I had such good luck cutting aluminum, I was wondering about brass. Can it be done on a CNC router. Starting point?
The correct bit is important. I also tried a 1/8" Onsrud 63-610 bit on the gear. It cut the great but left striations on the cut edges. I changed to the whiteside O flut and they were nice and shiny....
Well I got my new O flute bits and decided to buckle down and see what I could do with them. Here is what I ended up doing.

I used a Onsrud 63-775...
Still waiting on the thing. Should get it Saturday or Monday.
Once I get the unit attached to one of my CNC's I will have a better idea of what I am dealing with. I can just imagion ruining yet another bit, by crashing it into my table, when I just the machine...
One thing I was thinking of was to spring load the carriage. The goal is to keep the bit from crashing into the table when the power is turned off.
I have a ball screw Z axis coming from Techno Inc. Linear Motions System. I will need to provide some sort of brake. Any suggestions?
Thanks, I just ordered a cutter with a extrat 60degree blade and a thin pen kit.
Honastly I want the cutter to cut out some card stock. I noticed they have a 60 degree cutter for that. Its all part of a demo of my CNC book for the two shows coming up. They have a pen insert...
I want to cut vinyl and card sttock with my cnc. I have seen one here:

Is this what I should be looking...
Nice vid. How about some feed and speed info. What bit were you using. I was just given a bunch of Corian to play with.
I see that home depot sells a set of gaskrt rubber sheets. 2, 6" x 6" x 1/16" sheets for about $10. It certanly smells like rubber. Can I cut this with my 50Watt laser? IE is it save for the laser?
My new demo machine is almost complete. Its still missing the SuperPID speed control, Polycarb rack guards, and rear guard.
The table is removable for transport, as is the monitor and keyboard...
