Thanks again Charlie, sounds like you know your way around a motor.
Thanks again for all the help. Charlie, sounds like I could still have some fine tuning to do adjusting the brushes/holder. Where did you get the info from? I'd like to get my hands on a manual or...
Got it Don. Went 1/8 rotation instead of 1/4 and it reversed. Thanks for getting me thinking along the right line.
Thanks Don, I got a little better picture of the brush setup. I've been rotating 90 degrees at a time, maybe a 45 degree rotation instead?
Also, should I use some 3 in 1 oil to clean things up?
Wiring up an old Fairbanks Morse repulsion start motor on my jointer. 3hp single phase. Runs smooth but I need to reverse the rotation and can't figure it out. Says to remove brush holder screws...
Made some progress on the cast iron top this weekend. Thanks to everyone for the cleaning suggestions, I think I tried just about every option put out there. The scotch brite pad really help cutting...
Finally got a picture of my new jointer to upload. Still needs a little work, but getting closer.
Fired up the jointer last night, everything seems to be running smooth, surprised me how quiet the machine runs. Thank you all for your help! I can't seem to post pictures on here anymore, but if I...
Thank you all for the many helpful responses. Should have my switch this weekend and hopefully get things up and running.
Service factor on the motor is 1.15.
Not sure. Is the service factor rating on the motor plate?
Thanks Adam. Thought I would be safe, but wanted to check with somebody that knew more about this than me.
Rewiring my jointer. The motor is 3hp, 1 phase, 1740 rpm, 220v, 17.3 amp.
The switch I'm looking at is rated 18-26 amps.
Is it a problem having the amp rating on the switch higher than the...
Thanks for the maintenance tips Bradley. Got a pretty good start on the top today with WD-40 and a scotch brite pad. Followed that with some mineral spirits and I'm starting to see some progress....
Thanks Matt, very helpful.
Thank you Charles, I'll give it a shot today.
Finally got my jointer back home. No easy task, this thing is a beast. Has some pretty significant rust on the beds and I'm wondering what the best approach would be to clean it up? I've used mineral...
Thanks Jim, havent had any exp with a bridge guard, only pork chops. This might be the way to go as this machine will be used almost exclusively for flattening.
Thank you everyone, that gives me some good options. Always helpful responses here.
Hey everyone,
Just bought a 12" Crescent Jointer but its missing the blade guard. Can I buy one for this machine or am I better off making something.
Thanks,
Josh H.
I'm spraying a kitchen and having a little trouble with my topcoat. Cabinets are solid maple. Finishing schedule has been:
1. Sand raw wood to 150 grit
2. Apply MLC Clawlock Primer
3. Lightly...
It's close, but you can definitely tell the difference. If I had to do it over again, I would talk the client into using cherry. I also did their kitchen cabinets in maple with the same finish,...
Yes Phil, the entire vanity is maple. The darker portions have GF Pre-Stain Conditioner, 1 coat GF Vintage Cherry Dye Stain, 1 coat MLC Krystal Sealer. I then top-coated the entire piece with 2...
Thanks everybody! Always nice to hear opinions from fellow woodworkers.
