Thanks for all the help guys! I delivered the table last night. Also I was using the original sealer finisher in case anyone was wondering.

I've got a legit living room woodshop here. Heat on at 73 and two windows open for cross breeze.

Does air dried wood drink up more than kiln dried? I vaguely remember reading that kiln drying changes the chemical composition where as air dried you can rehydrate somewhat more. Maybe I'm way off...
Maybe my second coat was a little heavy since a few spots feel rubbery?
Ok guys, those who have used the waterlox products I got a question. I'm finishing a table made of industrial flooring that's a combo of heart pine, douglas fur and who knows what other pine might be...
Well I did purchase the whole lot @ $2.43 bdft. I feel ok with that for the most part. Can't really tell what's under the paint and grime unfortunately. It's a little knottier than I'd hope. That's...
So its probably about 5.75" of "meat". Just over 2" thick. I have access to the large shop where I work part time. The owner gave us a chance to buy some of it. He bought the whole lot of flooring...
Yeah I have several tables tops I need to do and I think this will be great for them.
All I know is it was from a factory from the 20s. He has a lot of 16 footers but the grain isn't nearly as tight on those. These were the straightest and tighter grained boards. Essentially he's...
What would you guys pay for some reclaimed industrial heart pine flooring per bdft? 32 boards ~7"W x 2"thick x 11' long----- ~415 bdft.
Already de-nailed but still has paint on the tops. Most has...
I have an electrolysis setup already. I also collect old vises. I've also used vinegar and evaporust. I was just curious if one method was preferred on something like this.
Thanks Jim! I find cleaning these up is therapeutic and rewarding.
What do you think? A solution to get the rust off or electrolysis? The blade and chip break are frozen together for one thing.
Picked up this Sargent 422 Type 2 for free today! It's a little rough and needs a tote but I'm not complaining. :D
It was dark and the thing is so dirty/rusty I couldn't find any markings...
Thanks guys! Paid $65 for it so I feel like I did alright
Picked this Stanley #45 up today. It's a complete set and looks to be a type 13-15. Anyway to tell which type? Came in an original box but I don't think it's original to this one. Has all the blades...
Haha I figured, just making sure I wasn't missing out on something.
Thanks guys!
I think I'm just gonna clean them up and use them. Probably won't find another deal like these. Or at least these deals are far and few between.
Stew, are you referring to ebay or...
I know there's a couple of threads going on, even recent but didn't want to high jack someone else's thread.
I picked up these two Bedrock planes for $20 each. Thought they were frankinplanes at...
How much would you guys pay for a northfield 8" jointer in good shape. Don't know what year or motor yet. Waiting on a call back.
Thanks!
Yah I figured $200-300. I think it had a $500 tag for the antique worktable top and base. I'll see if I can talk him down. :-)
I really like industrial table bases, specifically the crank bases but I can't afford those at the time. I did find a similar one without the crank. It is adjustable though and already has an antique...
Thanks guys! The stain is a typical minwax oil based stain. No finish on it yet, just the stain.
I know this has been covered before... my predicament is that I forgot to mask off some areas that needed to be glued. I masked of most of the places, just forgot a few. What's the best method of...
Ha sorry forgot to check back again after no one commented for a while. Guess I should have started with a photo. :-)
I ended up going with oak for the rustic stained look. Although I kind of wish I...
