The was the prettiest piece of wood I had seen for a long time. I hope I did it justice. 7" high; 11" wide All comments welcome.
39" tip to tip, 3 1/2" at base of horns. Mesquite, wenge and bloodwood. Go Texas!
Richard, great outcome with a redesign opportunity. Clever.
Eric, I have experienced the same thing. I believe it is not tear out but a vibration as you try to turn near the edge of the bowl half. The vibration causes the gouge or scraper to bounce causing...
Curious Richard, what type bottom did you use?
I have 2 moffet lights on my lathe that are terrific, however, the type bulb is important. I found that standard bulbs put out so much heat that they are uncomfortable. I found some 5500K twisty...
Great form Steve. I like it.
Bloodwood, Shadua, and Maple. 8.5" H, 7.5" W
Alternate titles: "Go Texas" (if you are from Texas); "A Lot Bull" ( If you are from Oklahoma) Critique welcome.
Build a zero clearance fence. I use MDF (shown in Malcolm's book) Then take the blade all the way through the cut and let it stop before raising it. If you bring it up before the blade stops, the...
Mike, I started with a sled. It was ok, but now I have gone 100% to a miter saw. I consider it more accurate, safer and faster. An added plus is that you don't have to store multiple sleds.
Thanks for the responses. I knew I could count on this forum for good advise. Actually it is my wife who wants to cut (on my bandsaw) some sheet copper for jewelry. Based on the replies, I will let...
Is there any reason that I can't put a metal cutting blade on a standard bandsaw and cut thin metal?
It is always good to try out new ideas. We all learn from them. In this case, I would say the results were well worth your effort. Great job.
Fantastic piece. Well done!
I believe the spindle thread on all Oneway's is M33-3.5
Thanks, Malcolm. That is a good point that had not occured to me.
Nice job Richard. Shows that segmented turners are not restricted to little pieces.
I have the same dust collector and I love it. It did blow out the bag that came with it however. I replaced it with a "contractor" plastic trash bag from home depot and haven't had a problem for 18...
Thank you all for your comments. Frankly, I am surprised that the preference was for the muted colors. I will definitely keep that it mind in the future. Holly is available on ebay. Search for holly...
On 01-28-09, I posted the picture on the left. My concern was that the woods that I had used (mesquite & maple) did not have enough contrast. Although comments were kind, I still believed more...
Great job Richard!
Art, the staves were rough cut to 3 7/8". You will lose an 1/8" or so while turning. The bowl diameters are 7 1/2".
Thanks, Richard. It is 18" high; 13" wide. 8 quarter bowls and 3 half bowls.
I just finished this mobius. The wood is bloodwood and maple. Malcolm told me the number of bowl segments required but not how to assemble them. I have to admit that it took me 3 or 4 hours to figure...
