Is there a generic equivalent for the Hunter style carb cutters.. looking through a machinist supply catalog I have, it appears that some of the standard machine tool cutter would work. Does anyone...

I dont think you are going to get the power you want for $800. However, you might look at used lathe.. they do come up. A good used Delta, Rockwell, or Powermatic might work. I checked Craigs list...
That look just a like a black spruce burl my father brought back from Alaska. Interesting wood..but kinda dry and dusty to turn..

There are lots of ways to finish the bottom of a bowl. Ive tried most including the big jaws you used. And, a longworth and donut chuck, tape, etc etc...I finally gave up and sanded the bottoms...
Very Nice!! I really like the way you used the natural form of the wood. For the life of me, I dont understand why some folks dont like working with oak. I think the color, grain and texture are...
Sure, you can store outside. The downside is frozen wood. Frozen wood takes a very long time to thaw. Find a used micro wave and defrost your blanks, if you are impatient like me
For me walnut is a bugger. It works wonderfully when dry but it partially dry it always seems to crack on me. I think you should consider asking your client to wait. I understand the need to...
Very nice! Great form and utilization of the grain!!!

If I was selling this in a gallery or good shop no less than $100.
Following the $10 rule.. $70 for the pot the rest for the lid and finish..

We are about 50 miles East of Oxford. Amazing storm.. We lost five giant oaks near the house. Out in the woods, I bet close to fifty trees of various types, but I wont know the true extent of...
I think your work is beautiful.. Enter another show with the same pieces and see what the result is. Ive done a few of these things.. Similar to another story.. the first one I was a major hit. The...
Im not sure this will be helpful since it seems you have tried everything. But I had a similar problem with my Jet 1642. My problem was solved with a new adapter. The tech at psi explained, and I...
get a good field guide.. telling the various oaks apart from a raw wood sample is pretty difficult..

It hard to judge from you photos... but since you asked... first, I love the wood and the finish is excellent. The collar draws my attention... the dark wood and it's size combine and draw the eye,...
Looks great and the pricing is attractive given the jump in prices on the Powermatics. Im beginning to plan for the "last lathe".. Im sure there is one out there, somewhere.. My only concern is...
I think you are looking for a cross slide or compound slide. Standard on metal turning lathes. You may be able to find one that can be made to work on your wood lathe..though one big enough for the...
Ive been through this thought process.... for me, a chainsaw is the fastest and easiest way to get my bowl blank rough shaped. I use a big compass and get a circle, knock off the corners and put it...
Im not sure why it is tacky, but Ive had similar problems when Ive applied a to much finish. Use some mineral spirits and clean the piece. Let it dry. See what you have and decide if you want to put...
12 inches is a good sized salad or fruit bowl... it seems to me the challenges go up significantly when you get bigger...if you want to get out to the max swing of your lathe...say 14 inches you...
Nice work! Of love the form. Sometimes, a piece of less then perfect wood comes out perfect.
Thanks for sharing...
Luck had a great deal to do with getting this piece to look the way it does. Ive been cutting up a huge old silver maple stump for 18mos. The piece of wood I used for the bowl came from the very...
Havent been around for the last couple of months. Work and family issues have cut into shop time. But these are two of my latest. I enjoy this forum a great deal and will try to be a little more...
