Phil,
I can highly recommend the CSA-600 from Quatro Air. Absolutely do not buy a bofa or atmos system as you will burn money for replacement filters.
Quatro's units are a bit cheaper to buy...
We bought our ULS 4.60 used a few years ago. We got extremely lucky as there is rarely used lasers from ULS/Epilog/Trotec up for sale and we got it at about half the price the rep quoted us along...
I have to correct my original post, ULS states 2.5 CFM @ 50 PSI not 3.5.
Anyways, I did an unscientific test using a loaner compressor we have and turns out @ 10 PSI on the machine gauge it does...
Hi All,
We have a VLS 4.60 and we're having to replace our air assist source. The manual states 3.5CFM @ 50PSI but we normally run it at 10-15PSI. 3.5CFM just seems extremely high to me, I know it...
Ah yeah, down in New Zealand we need to find that market! So far we can get about $10-20 per invite but that's not nearly enough to cover any sort of lace. Also extremely slow on our VLS 4.60.
We tend to talk customers out of lace designs for wedding stuff because the cost is enormous due to the amount of time it takes to cut intricate shapes (granted we're not on a high speed system like...
Curious Keith is this a new piece of software that isn't currently out on their production machines? I absolutely *hate* Universal's software but generally speaking I think all 3 of the bunch have...
Appreciate your input:
1. We're running a VLS 4.60, our rep knew this
2. As far as I could tell the PSU is split into two distinct units, one that powers the laser and one that powers everything...
I have no idea, there's no obvious sign of damage on the board, we've already paid for the new motherboard now so hopefully we don't have to deal with this again for many years to come…
So we managed to get this fixed up!
Turns out it was indeed a faulty motherboard, I still find that extremely strange as electronics tend to not just have such a "partial" failure but the new...
Hey Glen, we've done that already -- the rep even had us reset the EPROM and we've also used a completely new PC (I formatted and re-installed windows on it) just to rule out software issues.
...
I have no idea, I don't think so. As far as I can tell from what I can take apart easily it looks like tube's main power supply comes directly from the PSU and isn't routed through the motherboard.

Hey Bill we're fairly certain it has nothing to do with software at this point. The interlocks report as closed and the red pointer (which is still there!) turns off and it runs motion along the cut...
Hey All,
Our laser stopped firing last Friday it powers up fine, and it attempts to run a job but absolutely no laser firing at all. It was working the day before without any sign of being faulty...
John we just use a small power hand sander and then shopvac at an angle over the surface when finished to get the dust out. Works great and makes every wood job look fantastic.
We sand just about...
Great read! Even for us with a ULS it was good to confirm a few of our suspicions. Just makes us wish we had a Trotec, specially the Speedy 360!
Hey Samuel,
Thanks for your commends, that's exactly what our local company has recommended. I don't really think it matters much whether you engrave or cut for the carbon stage of a filtration...
Hey SMC,
Was curious if anyone knows the specific type of Activated Carbon that is best for laser fume extractors. We're down in New Zealand and buying replacement carbon from our filter unit...
Hey Bill,
We use Mac's exclusively and run VMWare which is very similar to either VirtualBox or Parallels. If you can afford the $80 I'd recommend VMWare Fusion over VirtualBox especially if you...
Hey All,
We have a ULS VLS 4.60 and running the latest UCP. We spend a lot of time running artwork through UCP (5-10x a day) to estimate times to formulate quotes and we're finding it extremely...
You 100% need ventilation of some sort, either a blower that extracts externally or a multi pass filter system preferably using a pre-filter/hepa/activated carbon setup.
When a client obviously states their budget is above what you were going to charge I always go slightly lower than their quote. In this case probably $18-$19. And due to the extra profit I'll likely...
My fiance runs most of our design/laser business but coming from the software development world myself I helped apply a few things to pricing:
– Big companies actually don't normally sign first...
It's pretty unfortunate Trotec throws their huge markup on the accessories you need to keep your engraver running. The laser machines look incredible but the filtration unit costs and the replacement...
