I had this same problem with mine. In the book you will find the answer. Don't have it in front of me now but you need to loosen a nut on the back of the machine and it will free up.

In the end I started with a 1/4" up-cut spiral bit down the center making 3 passes for depth. Then switched to a 3/8" up-cut spiral bit down the center. then...

I use a couple of Dewalt track saw clamps with my Makita track. They work very well holding the track in place. You will find the track is more stable on wood by if the cut is to be perfect...

I should have included the following:
1" thick Poplar doors
each approx 12" wide
hinges are on the face not mortised in
being built in the summer in New England = pretty humid time of year.
