Cherry and Walnut, 5 x 2 1/2 plus finial. Actually just messing around with some cut-offs. Enjoyed the process.

Congratulations to your son. For the times when he wants to fly and the weather is "iffy", tell him what my instructor told me: "It is better to be down here wanting to be up there, than to be up...
What a great box! I like the detail. Keep it up.
The finish is just friction polish and spray lacquer.
Yep, I did use my flex shaft on the Dremel.
Because my jumbo jaws aren't large enough to hold this platter I had to find another way to take off the foot. I chose to try my dremel tool with a round headed bit. Just started at the center and...
This is a piece of Hard Maple 8 1/2" x 1".

That is beautiful, as are all your turnings!
I think you nailed my situation. I look for any quick short-cut when it comes to sanding and just haven't put much quality time into it. I think I'll put more focus on the sanding and finishing in...
Well, The first one is Red Cedar (6 3/4 x 1) and the second Cherry (9 x 1). I still need a lot of practice. Also need to learn to sand better.

Thanks for the comments on the platter. The finish is friction polish first and then spray can lacquer over that. Simple and quick. Have a great day.
Finally tried to turn a platter. It's a scrap piece of Cherry 1"x 9". You have to start somewhere, right?

She wants it to snow here in North Carolina so much she can't stand it. We must have 10 snowmen in various places sitting around the house. Now, we have one on the mailbox post.

Those look mighty good! Keep em coming.
This is some more of the backyard dogwood. 6 1/8" x 1 3/8". I like the red in this piece. Fun and good practice.

You did a great job on that pick holder. Keep posting them as you make more.
Thanks for the comments. The inside is 1 1/4".
Just make sure that you don't make it any shorter than the plan calls for or the toothpicks won't fit.
Saw this in Wood Magazine (#182 March 2008). It's from a piece of spalted "UNKNOWN" wood from my yard. 4" tall counting the finial x 2 1/4" wide.

Those sure are great bowls. Keep it up.
That looks great! Great shape, keep up the great work.
Chuck of scrap dogwood. 5"x2 1/2".
Thanks for the comments. These two are about 1 1/2" w x 2"-2 1/2"h. I just use a 1/2" round nose scraper to hollow out the endgrain (I drill a 3/8" hole first), a skew to shape the body, and 3/8"...
