Looking 4 design ideas for electric smoker cabnit

    Hi,

My lovely wife has added yet another project to my honey to do list.

She wants the Bradley electric smoker we have on our outside deck to have a cabnit to protect it while not in use.

So here are a few questions:
    1) Anyone ever build something like this?

    2) Suggestions on Wood/Finish since it will be outside in weather and sun?

    3) Suggestions on how to handle a hole or viewing port of some sort for the electronic control that sits on the side of the unit?

    4) She offered that it would be good to have the cabnit not be big and ugly, so I'm thinking that the SMOKER unit will need to sit in the cabnit while not in use and sit on top of the unit while in use. - given this any one have any suggestions on a veritcal type lifting mechanism?

    Any help wold be great:
    THANKS

    Dan,

It would be easier to help if we knew on what part of the globe you were living. The wood that can be found in my locality and would be my first choice may not be available to you.

It would also be helpful, in offering help, if we knew the size and general appearance of the smoker. A link to online specifications might be the easiest way to do this.

And finally, the smoker will not be used inside the cabinet right?

My first thoughts are of a tambour door, or a cover that stows out of the way. That way, no other lifting device is needed.

I have built a stand for my Masterbuilt smokers but I keep them in the garage when not in use, I know your smoker is about the same size as mine

You could use cedar and you don't have to finish it if you don't want to or you can clear coat it

Maybe make double doors with plexiglass panels to see through

If you made it with doors it could sit in while using as lon as you vent the top
