    Smile Circular Library desk

Here's a very interesting project I built several years ago.
I'm a Union Carpenter, the company I work for gives me all their custom work.
I was given a set of plans, color of the stain, a laminate sample and the finish they wanted.
I had 3 weeks to build it and spray the finish, the problem was the school was exactly 100 miles from my shop.

It needed to built in such a way that I could transport it and reassemble it in one day.
Another problem, my shop was to small for this desk. It measures 18' wide and 12' deep.
I used my brothers shop next to my own.
I was very happy with the final result, so were the architects for the school renovation project.

As you can see from the pictures the counter tops needed to be scribe around the 20" column and the cabinets
needed to be in the correct position to finish at the wall near the book return.

Your comments are always welcome and I'll answer any questions you have.

3 weeks? I'd need 3 years and it still wouldn't look half as nice!

Astronomically huge project. Bigger than half of my entire shop!

    Congrats on a great project.

Thank you for your comments, I really appreciate them.
This was such a daunting task when I first started to build it
I had many sleepless nights during its construction.

I know this forum is for personal projects, but I wanted to share it with you,
I've learned a great many new techniques and acquired a lot of tools doing this type of work.
All the knowledge I've attained during my 28 years as a carpenter
is reflected in my square bowls.

Very.. very nice Mark. After I was ask several years ago (I am a 37 year hobbyist) to do a 100' custom, semi-round show-room counter by my former employer.... I know what a challenge the round is. I got a little advice from a gentleman at Oddessey design who specializes in curved work and fought my way through it in connecting sections.

So.. excellent job as you seem to have conquered the challenge.

    Sarge..

What an ambitious project! Your ability to complete such a quality product in such a short time frame is amazing. Well done.
