    Raised Panel Blanket Chest

I have done a lot of work with raised panels in the past, but this is one of the more complex projects. I had looked for plans, but never really found anything that was quite just right, so I finally had to draft my own. I also gained a lot of experience with new joints (compound miter on the case and splined miters on the skirt board), plus I had to create my own templates for the curved pieces. Now that I have the jigs and templates created, should be able to fabricate the next two a lot quicker (Wife says my two sons now need one). All in all it was a fun project!

    Robin,

What a nice job you did on the chest! Why is the routered portion of the raised panel a darker color than the rest of it?

BTW, I also like the raised panel work on your walls. I have a project house that I am thinking about doing the same thing to it. Your setup looks simple but still elegant. Did you do it yourself? Do you have any design guides that might help me to reproduce something like it on my house?

    Thanks,
    Phil

Welcome to the Creek. Great first post and a great looking chest. I have two of these on my to-do list for my two daughters. I'm guessing from your pictures that you are showing us one of the other chests you mentioned you have to make as well as the first one. Am I correct in assuming the first one has the curved top raised panels and the second is the lighter one with the squared panels? Either way, great job on them.

I'm sure in the second picture that the bevels are prestained so when they move during seasonal changes the tounges don't show raw wood. Shows good forethought.

Good looking chests, I like the one with the cathedral tops all around better than the mix.
