Just a bookcase - needed practice on new skills/techniques (pics)

I needed a bookcase for the growing number of WW books I have consuming my night stands. I also wanted to try out a couple new techniques/skills before using them on a paying job (TV stand). Here is the pre-stained/pre-lacquer result. It was the first project use of my low angle jack, my first time cutting crown molding (all the trim I made in the shop), and it will be my first lacquer attempt latter this week. Wood is red oak from IN (top glue up, crown/trim, face frames, shelf edges) and red oak ply (sides and shelves) from Menards.

    Thanks for looking.
Glad its my shop I am responsible for - I only have to make me happy.

    Bookcase

Very nice. Hope you didn't do what I did. I built a bookcase for my woodbooks and found I had more books than case.

Mike, nice work on that trim! Good proportions on the bookcase, too. We will need to see a pic of the finished project next week!

Nice Mike.. interesting effect with the QS red oak face frame and the cathederal sides that the ply has. Looking forward to see it after finish.

Looks like the "practice" was well executed!

Great looking bookcase. I need to make one to hold all my books and magazines. Maybe I can get some motivation after the weather warms up a little.

Great work...it's a never ending cycle. You'll soon fill this bookcase up and need another one!
