Question on 220V Plug Wiring...

OK... so I'm wiring up my G0514X2 and the electrical panel on the saw is pretty self-explanatory. No Problem.

Now I'm wiring up a 250V, 3-prong twist plug with 12/3 wire. The grounding connection is obvious, but my question is whether or not the other two wires must be specifically attached to one or the other connections, or can they be connected to either one?

(Don't want to see my new Bandsaw start smoking, so thought I'd check to be sure!)
