    New collet

Just received a new 1/4" collet for router and can not put bit in to it.
This is Milwaukee 3 1/2 router and collet came from same company. It is a stamp with 1/4" number on collet.
Should I pry it with more force? Just afraid to brake it

This probably wont help much, but I have the same 3 1/2hp router... I also have a smaller Milwaukee router. I can interchange the collets (both the 1/4" and 1/2" ones) without issues.

With the collet in your hand, the insides should move freely within the nut. If this is not the case press the insert from the side where you insert the bit to push it back a little so that it does turn freely. If it currently turns freely and a 1/4" shaft still won't go in, I'm not sure what's going on there.

P.s. I also inter-change collets and bases between Mil routers with no problem.

    Smile Thanks

Glenn, thanks for advice. I think what happened, when I recived nut with collet, it was jammed with wrong end into nut. I did use a lot of force by hand to remove it.
Now, I was able to put 1/4" bit to collet without nut and will keep it for a few hours inserted. It may decrease tension of collet lips.
