    Marking Gauge plan needed

    Hi All,

I think I saw a plan for a marking guage in Popular Woodworking but I can't find the article now. It used a wedge to hold the beam in place and they said it was easier to set up using one hand.

Does anyone remember this or can point me to other plans?

    Thanks in advance,
    Chuck

I used this plan from Craftsmanspace as the basis for some marking gauges I made. Some other types of marking gauge plans are also available at the same site.

December 2006 Popular Woodworking. It was an Arts & Mysteries article by Dean Jansa. I've made a bunch of them and I love them. They are now my favorite style of gauge.

Here's a linked pic from the PW site of a couple of Adam's gauges made from Dean's plan.

The beam is about 5/8" square by any length you want (mine are about 8"). The head stock is about 1-1/2" to 1-3/4" wide by about 3" long by about 1" to 1-1/4" thick. The wedge is about 1/4" thick and made to fit the wedge mortise after you chop it. One bit of advise, make a scrap beam or wedge to fill in the first mortise you chop while you chop the intersecting mortise. This will prevent the second mortise from blowing out when you chop the intersection. DAMHIKT .
