    Unless the blades are extremely dull. I've never known my jointer or planer to make dust - always small chips that are too heavy to get airborne.

    Doug,

    Try a little experiment. Rub some light oil on the walls of the chip chute, joint some wood, and then look in the chip chute. It obviously won't be like sanding dust, but you may be surprised. It also depends on what you're jointing, depth of cut, feed speed, lots of variables.
