    VFD Question

I am searching for a Variable frequency drive that will convert single phase to 3 phase for a 5hp motor. .

Most VFD's in this size are noted as 3 phase in and 3 phase out.

Can a VFD which is rated that way, also convert 1 phase to 3 phase. ??

www.factorymation.com has them. Call the tech to explain it but you need to pick a slightly higher rated VFD to do that. There are details on the subject that aren't explained by reading the site info. The smaller ones say single phase in and three phase out and the bigger ones say three phase in and three phase out. What they don't say is you need to use a higher rated unit to get the single phase in and three phase out. It's called derating. Call the techs at factorymation. They are very good. I've bought 4 VFD's in the last six months from them as well as a bunch of other components and they helped with all the configuring. Best prices and the tech help is a bargain thrown in.
