    Greyscales

Is there much of a difference when engraving between converting a photo to 8-bit greyscale or 16-bit greyscale or by using desaturate?

The laser cant represent 16 bit shades of grey and the driver will "interpret" it to a much lower resolution in terms of shading, so you might as well just convert it to 8 bit in the first place.
