I think Derek is on the money. Also if you look at the book it does give a option to curve the front infill this will give you some more room. If Derek posts a photo I think he curved his as well for better clearence.
You got the book, might as well follow through and make one, in fact make 2 at once and change the angle and you see which works the best.

Thanks to everyone who commented on this thread. I'm leaning toward a bed angle of 55 degrees. Before I make it, I will try the back bevel trick on my Stanley No. 4 to get an idea of what to expect.

I plan to shape the front ramp as Derek suggests. That seems to be pretty simple and effective.

I'll welcome any further comments or suggestions!
