    Great job!!
If at first you don't succeed, look in the trash for the instructions.

That is a really neat project, and it turned out great. Is the trim leather? John, you did a great job making it look old.

    WOW!!! Tutorial needed!
Wood is very beautiful in tree form. Wood is very useful in burning form. I merely try to make my work honor the first, avoid the latter, and aim for the middle: beautiful and useful.

One heck of a job John.. and it looks as though you did it with SYP. You did an outstanding job on the outside finish as it looks to be 200 years old right off your bench. What finish on the outside. My other question was already asked about the use of leather?

I personally love it and may just attempt one in the future. I call that a steamer trunk and haven't seen one in years. Then again.. not many people cross the ocean on steamers anymore.

    Excellent...

It looks about 80 years old! Nice job.

    Thanks for the comments.
This is my first attempt at a trunk, so I learned alot that will help the next one go faster and look better.
The trim is vinyl with a leather grain.
The finish starts with early American Minwax stain, and then I sprayed black enamel and then wiped the paint off the center of each board. I will be sealing it with lacquer.
The lock came from Grizzly several years ago when they put on clearance for $4.99. It is a nice heavy brass plated security lock.

Try the lacquer on a test piece first. Some lacquers will lift and wrinkle some enamels. The Lacquer may soften the vinyl also. That is a nice project. I would not want to see it ruined.
