    Sanding between varnish coats

Is it possible that I'm getting scratches from the sandpaper (220 lightly between varnish coats as per instructions) on my projects?
    TIA

What kind of varnish are you using?

Varnish needs to dry and cure at least 24 hours--48 is better--before between coat sanding. Generally, 320 is a better grit. 220 will tend to leave visiable scratches particularly if you are not careful to sand in the direction of the grain.

Like Howard says, I do: 220 with the grain.
