Thread: 1 HP dust collector - sufficient?

  1. #16
two problems that I see quite often are

1)the idea that dust is somehow less dangerous in a 1 car garage.

2)dust collection is akin to chip collection.

    In a word - NO!

I bought a 1hp Grizzly on sale. It wouldn't pull chips out of the planer, and left so much dust in my cabinet saw that it burned out the motor in the saw as dust built up too high. It was replaced with 2hp Grizzly 1029. It works great!

The old 1hp model ended up on my bandsaw. The band saw used to envelop the shop in a cloud of dust, and the 1hp keeps the airborne dust cloud down, but does not stop dust from accumulating in the bottom of the saw.

Go for the 2hp model. What a difference!!
